OK... got my lower and I'm ready to move forward on my FIRST and ONLY pistol build.
I have an extension tube that came from a FAKE collapsable stock, it's 11" long INCLUDING the threads. I assume it is from some ban era rifle... it has NO holes where a tele-stock can slide and lock into place... so the capability of slapping a tele-stock on it and making an illegal SBR is not an issue. I want to go with a 10.5" or 11.5" barrel... I'm not looking to make the shortest pistol, just the most relaible one... 1. To use this tube, I need a RIFLE BUFFER and SPRING... correct? 2. Will this longer tube increase the odds of reliablity? 3. Any legal issues with OAL when completed? I figured if I won't run into legal AOL length issues and the longer tube increases the chances of reliability, why not? Go easy... I don't know jack shit about AR pistols... |

As for the legal, nothing to worry about federally regarding overall length on a handgun/pistol. It can be as short or long as you want.
IF it turns out legal 26" or more, though, you can put a vertical forward grip on it. Then it becomes a "firearm", and a "handgun" again when you take it off. Also, whether the buffer will accept a buttstock is not the test. The test is whether you have a "useful purpose other than making an NFA firearm" for any given part among those in "close proximity" (undefined). - OS |
