| Anyone have any bad experiences with this stuff? I saw Wally world is starting to carry 9MM and .223 |
|
I just shot Silver Bear, Brown Bear, and Wolf today. If Tula is anything like wolf, you can probably expect the recoil to be lighter and flatter. Bear ammo had a similar kick to 5.56 Winchester, but still not the exact same punch/oooomf.
My groups are good at 50 yds. Around an inch or better. YMMV though. |
| The black box Tula = wolf, my AR's usually shoots 4 out of 5 shots extremely well, it seems 1 out of 5 is a "flyer". Otherwise, never a FTF or FTE. I shot them in my Colt HBAR, DPMS light, and FS2000. The white box Tula is from Star Vector, the same importer who brought us the Golden Tiger ammo. My experience with the white box is the 308. My FNAR seem to have a light trigger/firing pin as some rounds don't ignite, but then I put that same ammo in my bolt action rifle and it shoots just fine. The 308 Tula's accuracy is equal or better than the PRVI and Black Hills match ammo, at least in my rifles. As each gun shoots different, YMMV. I'm fortunate to have all my guns eat cheap ammo well. |

I have both kinds of Tula, the TulAmmo black box, and the white box. I do a lot of plinking and target shooting. I have been running this stuff through all 3 of my ARs with NO problems. In fact I ordered 500 more rounds from CTD saturday. I also have some old Barnaul and Norinco ammo. They all shoot well, function the gun ok. I have yet to have a problem with this stuff & have shot a lot of it. I am not shooting at super long ranges, but it seems to hit where I aim it. Unless I don't do my part, which is often. As to dirtyness, I haven't really noticed it either. It isn't near as bad as some of the handgun powders I used to reload. I have been shooting this cheap Russian stuff for years. I probably wouldn't use it to take a 250 yard shot at a coyote, but am happy with it.
Thanks, Mark |

Haters everywhere. This ammo is good for plinking. if you want Zombie Ammo, get better stuff.
My AR 16" runs this all day long. I think I have bout 1 to 2 FTF per 1K. Hasnt short stroked on me yet. This is acceptable for me. YMMV. In fact, Ive never had problems with Tula, Wolf, Golden Bear, Silver Bear, Brown bear... |

I went into this with the hopes of being able to purchase this ammo for all uses. I explained what happened to me and my opinion on the ammo. I have yet to try Brown Bear, Silver Bear or Golden Bear ammo and I will in the near future. I've got no problem at all with paying less then "premium" prices for AR 15 ammo. My pockets are no deeper then anyone else's. Plinking is one thing but the ammo does not instill confidence for when more consistent feeding is needed. I like the accuracy and would like nothing more then to say that my AR ate it like candy but it wouldn't be true. I put my targets there to show how I shot it. It shoots up to standard as far as I'm concerned. It just doesn't feed, where as the Federal American Eagle .223 ran smooth. I do hope to find a less expensive ammo that feeds consistently and is as accurate. Will it run better in a piston gun? |
| Went to Midway USA's site today and ordered a box each of 62 gr brown bear, Wolf and Golden Bear and 55 gr Brown Bear, silver bear and wolf. I'll shoot them in separate mags and see how they work. I'm about saving money but not at the cost of consistency. This link in the AMMO FAQ really helped explain a lot to me. |
| My first 60 rounds or so had ZERO problems. The next 20 or so was an FTE every 2 rounds! Then I tried a different mag and shot about 30 rounds no problem. Must have had a bad box. I cleaned my AR after my first 60 round outing. I still have another 80 rounds or so to shoot. Seems like it's inconsistent. I'll be ordering some silver bear soon to test that out. |

I went out today and shot the following from the same Bushmaster (standard iron sites) using the same mags. 20 rounds each: 55 gr Wolf black box steel case 55 gr Brown Bear lacquered steel case 55 gr Silver Bear zinc plated case 62 gr Brown Bear lacquered case 62 gr Wolf black box steel case 62 gr Golden Bear brass plated case All were fired at 50 yards. All but 7 shots were in the 6 inch diameter orange zone of the crosshair target. The rounds outside the circle were due to my vision blurring from the wind and they were all with in an inch of the circle. There was one single Failure to Feed. The 2nd round of 62 gr Wolf. Both types of Brown Bear ammo seemed to have more zing to them. Although 20 rounds each isn't a complete flesh out all the types fired today did better then the Tulammo and Golden Tiger ammo I fired last week. I also found a 50 round box of 230 gr FMJ 45 acp Tulammo at Wal Mart. My 1911 ate it up and was on par with the same type of round in Federal American Eagle. I'll be staying away from the .223 Tulammo and Golden Tiger but have a number of Russian made ammo brands that will fill my coffers. The Tulammo .45 ACP will get a good run through my guns. Folks have said that 55 gr Wolf Black Box and the 55 gr Tulammo Black Box are from the same manufacturer and the same round. They didn't act the same out of my carbine. Hope this helps someone. |

I have never fired a single round of Tula, but I'd try if the opportunity presented itself. I have fired more russian rounds than I care to know in the last decade, of Wolf. I have never had a FTF/FTE with a single one! (except a bushy SS varminter that flat out refused to let a wolf round touch its chamber) I've had some rims rip off where the extractor grabbed them, but they ejected all the same. If you melted down the wolf casings I've left down range you could build a ship. I've been training with Wolf so long, I view Silver Bear as tier 1 Maybe the guns I shot were peed on by a lephrachan and thus perpetually lubricated I think an adjustable gasblock ala FAL/daewoo should be a standard in an ammo sensitive world. The direction we are headed in will most likely present a decrease in ammo quality to adjust costs so a rifle that CAN eat anything should be considered. |

Well shot another 30 rounds of the Tula today with zero failures. Similar accuracy as before at 100 yds, about 2-3inch. I cleaned my AR this time with Hoppes #9 and that may have helped. I'm convinced the 20 or so rounds I had problems with was just a bad box. Ordered some Silver Bear today from Sportsman's guide. I also shot the remington bulk pack from walmart. No failures but accuracy wasn't any better than the Tula. Interesting. |

There is no way I would pay $5 a pop at my local walmart, if it was $3-4 then maybe, but bear ammo is $4.20 a box. The problem there is once you add shipping the price isn't that different. Plus if your AR runs steel case well having a local source for range/tranning ammo is a big plus. ETA: Is this Tula or is the Wally brand Tulammo a different animal? |
