Hey, need some help! Looking for the name(s) of the deivce or manufacturer that allows you to hold two mags side-by-side in the magwell. As far as I recall, it is NOT a clamp that holds two mags together. Instead, it's a deivce that attaches to the magwell that holds a mag next to the one that is loaded into the magwell. What's its name?! Thanks |
Most skip the redi-mag, and go for one of the mag coupling devices like the mag-cinch, or the israeli clamp gets good review. Then they dump those to. My preference would be for a clamp as you can redily remove it when it is not needed, with the redi-mag, it is always mounted to the weapon. It's also more expensive. So, if you decide you don't want it, you have more to lose. |
From what I've read here most do not feel like they are a good idea. That said, 2 of my 4 lowers have Redi-mags installed, and I have a 3rd in the spare parts box. As stated, they are "always there". And on a favorite KISS "go-to" rifle, I always got a warm feeling knowing I would be stepping out into the dark with a pair of 30's on the rifle. My basic, no other frills CAR-15 has worn a Redi-mag since they were first sold. My varmint rifle lower also has one. When using the bipod, 20 rounders fit nicely, and I can drop the empty, and insert the new magazine without reaching around or making very many movements, a nice thing when sniping. Expense is a valid point, since the clamps do about the same thing. One thing I appreciate about how my Redi-mags are adjusted is that I can carefully press the mag release, and just drop the empty magazine. A full one from my belt pouch can be used for the reload, RESERVING the full mag in the Redi-mag for an emergency. At least that is how I consider them tactically, as a "LAST" mag I can count on for a super quick reload. They ARE well made. And even once installed, you do NOT have to stick a full 30 in there all the time. The "weight penalty" when not in use is only 8.75 ounces, a big deal to light gun fans I suppose. I will probably always want to have at least one Redi-mag fitted lower around, although I agree they are not essential items. Paladin |
