I’m almost done with my first scoped AR build and I’m at a loss as how to mount and sight in the scope. I own a Bushmaster Predator Upper and a Redfield Revolution 3-9X50mm scope w/ a 1” tube. So part one of my question is “What would be the best way to mount this scope?” The upper came with ½” ring risers. Should I get a set of medium or large 1” rings and mount the scope? Or should I remove the risers and buy a one piece “Hi Rise” type of scope mount? Part two is “How do I sight a scoped AR in?” I spent 11 years in the Military using the M-16A2/M4 platform and I can sight in an AR with Iron sights, an M68 or an EOtech in my sleep. But I’ve never had to sight in a scoped AR. Can I sight it in to 300 meters just like a non scoped AR using the 25 meter zero target? Thanks |

The risers/rings will work but its not the best. Since you asked about the best get a Larue or Bobro one piece mount. I prefer Larue but either are top notch.
Part 2: Zero the scope at 100 yards. At close range just aim a little low (1.5" at 50 yards etc.) At 200 aim a little high and so on. You will have to shoot your gun with whatever ammo you're gonna use to get an exact idea of your holdover points. Its the only way to be sure. Hope this helps. Did you get the scope with a duplex or bdc reticle? |

1. You have 2 points where something is secured by screws that could come loose instead of one. Just not as "robust."
2. Not cantilevered over the handguard. Depending on your shooting style and stock choices it could cause eye relief problems on where its mounted. 3. Not quick detach if that matters. 4. Not as kewl. Non of them are deal breakers, just not the best option. |
