When using a two point sling, do you sling it around your neck only or put your arm through it? Advantages/Disadvantages to each position?
Neck sling: +Easier to transition to weak side +Less loose sling flopping around and getting in the way of magazine changes - If weapon is heavy, it may be uncomfortable - Death by getting choked by own sling if you jump down from something and your rifle gets caught on a ledge or object Putting arm through sling first: +Distributes weight better +Body takes the brunt of any force applied to sling instead of the more vulnerable neck -Have to change to neck sling in order to transition to opposite side in most cases -Snag city (Rummaging through rifles all equipped with two point slings in a safe is annoying as they snag or are caught within each other.) |
| I run a Vickers VCAS mounted rear of handguard to right side of stock and run the sling over my left shoulder and under my right arm. This way, I can get the rifle onto my back with having to "swim" through the sling for sidearm access, and shoulder transitions still work as they should. |
