I have heard that during the Vietnam era,McNamara ordered barrels to be chrome lined, but chambers NOT to be chrome lined.
Once problems surfaced, bores AND chambers were then chrome lined.

QUESTION:
#1    How many of these chrome bore/non chrome chamber barrels were made, and during what time period?
#2    How can I tell if its got a chrome lined chamber...some are difficult to distinguish the chrome lining.(chrome lining in chamber does not always have that silvery look).

Appreciate any advice.

No chrome till late 1967.  First were the chrome chambers, Colt's were marked C MP C.  Then came the full chrome bore and chamber in about 1971, Colt's were marked C MP B, or C MP CHROME BORE.  Never heard of a chrome bore without the chamber being done.

Some Colt barrels were marked "C MP C" and these had chrome lined chambers only.  Others were marked "C MP B" and these had chrome lined chambers and bores.  Others were marked "C MP CHROME BORE" and these also had chrome lined chambers and bores.  There were other barrel makers also, like "SAK MP ......", "FNMI MP ...." and some others also.

BTW, I've never heard of a barrel with a chrome bore, but not chamber.

Yes,I know the posts are similar. I was initially trying to identify the SAW barrel. Then I decided to identify chrome and non-chrome barrels.

Basically I'm contemplating purchasing one or two of these barrels from the dealer I met,but I wanted to be sure of what I'm buying first.

The Colt barrels were marked CMP B

I think I'll grab at least one of those.

C MP B is a fully lined  barrel; bore and chamber.

The only chrome bore, unlined chamber I have ever seen is on a Chinese SKS I've owned for the past 20+ years. I appears that the barrel blank was chromed, and the chamber cut after the lining. This is a later model, spike bayonet job that was a Viet Nam pick up. An earlier, blade bayonet piece has a lined chamber and bore.
