Started a new build and it is complete, some minor parts pending. Basically a Sun Devil Lower, Magpul CTR, H Buffer, Tango Down Grips front/rear, Vltor MUR Upper w/assist, Vltor CASV, CMMG SOCOM 14.5, Phantom 5C1, GGG #40L, DD Side Sling Ring, KNS II's, etc. Now this build basically has all top of the line crap and I do mean crap. Probably in it now nearly a couple grand. I started looking at this stuff and honestly it is all overpriced junk that really doesn't add much to the overall system except to the bottom line. I decided to not stop there but also to add a piston system- why not, it's already a bloated cash cow that has taken me to a whole new level of organ donation. Sad part, by the time this beast is complete it will be around $2400 w/out glass. Course what good is having just one when you can build two!!! So I started a second one which will also be on a Sun Devil Lower with yet another Vltor MUR upper combo- except have an 18" barreled platform. Not sure what sick amount of overtime might get dumped into this one but rest assured- I am neglecting my fiscal responsibilities! So with that, I have realized something. This AR stuff is all crack, it's a sickness, it's never enough but hey- I'll post some pics in a few days! Centurian77 |

COOL! The std. Ar15 carbine is what I call a 95% rifle. 95% of the time a stock 16in will do all you need of it. When you want to close that last 5% thats when it get's very costly. Match barrel, optic's etc. Most people would be better off with a nice Kiss carbine and spend the 2K in ammo and training to use it. (My two cents) Which is all I have left becouse I spent it all on Tatical cool stuff for my AR! |

I don't think it would even close to qualify as an uber AR, maybe a nicer mid-line build. Some of the AR's on here run into the dozens of thousands of dollars so I doubt anything less than $15,000 would even qualify. Not my build but someone I know: M16 lower - 12k LMT MRP upper w/ 4 barrles and bcg's - 2.5k SB Shortdot and larue mount - 2.5k AN-PAQ4 - 1.5k ITT PVS-14 - 3k Aimpoint M3 w/ larue mount - $600 Troy front and rear BUIS: $250 LMT Sopmod stock - $250 Not counting any small parts at all your still looking at $22,600 worth of parts. If I was to tac on his variosu supressors, the collars and the various other equipment the figure shoots up closer to $25,000 for ONE rifle. And this doesn't even figure the M203 and a bunch of other exotic accessories. Honestly I think that if he wanted, he could have an AR decked out with about $30,000 worth of equipment. Young Skywalker, the force is growing within you, but your BRD have not been fully developed yet. The road is long and very very expensive. |

Well I must admit, having a true M16 registered lower would make it into the true Uber AR. However an RR costs as much as my Jeep nearly, FA is rarely useful except to supplement an ED presciption, plus it lends you to inspection and limitation crossing state lines. I'll post pics though when she's complete, got the piston system on order as well- going all the way with this one!!! C77 |

This is part of a post I made in another forum which relates to my story of "Hi, my name is Randy and I have BRD" ------------------------ Howdy - I'm a noob here and new to this crazed AR15 addiction. I make fun of my friends with their BlackBerry's - or CrackBerry's as I call them. Well, the CrackBerry cult has nothing on this BlackRifleBerry thing, let me tell you. So, I decide I want to get one of these babies. Based on numerous recommendations here on ARFCOM, I call Pete at Legal Transfers and he hooks me up with a RRA Entry Tactical (super guy by the way- very knowledgeable, very patient). But I want a stainless barrel, so it's going to be a few weeks until she arrives. So, I'm going stir crazy waiting, and I start reading the "Build it Yourself" forum - mistake. So, I start ordering bling for the RRA Entry Tactical which somehow leads me to start ordering parts for my second AR - all of which is going to to be here before my first one shows up. I know, it's just sick ... but it's also way fun and I can't seem to stop hitting that "Place Order Now" button. I sure hope the Big Brown Truck shows up soon. This idle time is starting to turn into zero's and comma's |

As my buddy JL says, it's the "sickness". I have at least got to the point where quality matters more than quantity- five years ago it was a different story. Now I would rather have some very select rifles over a ton of standard ones. I also have gotten away from the "arm the neighborhood" mentality, which again if you own half a dozen in the exact same configurationt then you know what I mean. C |
| I bought a lower first, then 6 months later, bought an A1 upper w/HBAR off the EE. Still hadn't shipped the upper ( not anyone's fault, just one of those strange things ) For one reason and another, my first lower is shipping this week, I have a second, carbine upper nearly built, and still have parts left over I didn't sell, looking at splitting up the first upper into two, building another, more retro A1 carbine ( first one is a C7 upper) and getting a flattop for the 20" barrel I will have, and two more lowers. By the time 365 days have passed, I will most likely have THREE ARs, when I set out to have ONE! I don't have a lot of disposable income right now, so you can imagine what my socks look like...BRD indeed! I might have to sell ALL of them, join a twelve-step program, just so I can afford groceries! |
GG mfingar , you've just pre-filled out my christmas wishlist for the next couple years ^_^ |
