I'm not very well versed on ARs but I've owned a Colt A3 HBAR Elite and an SP-1 for many years.  I bought and installed a Timney trigger in the SP-1 first with no problems at all.  Then I bought a large pin trigger unit for the Elite and there is a block pinned into the trigger group mortise in the HBAR lower that prevents the trigger from fitting.  The block is held with a pin about .5 inch in diameter directly above the hole for the safety lever and has "Colt" on the top of the block (looking down into the lower).  My question is what is this block?  Was it a mod to existing receivers after the 1986 ban on convertable receivers or can it be removed legally?  If not I guess I'm screwed or will have to modify the trigger to fit.  FWIW, there is no reference to this issue on Timney's site and I have emailed them about possible trigger mods.  Thanks in advance.

Well, now that I learned what a sear block is I can answer my own question.  The block must be milled for clearance to install a timney trigger.  Timney charges $85 for the job.
