I got a preban Colt AR15 A2 with a 16" barrel and collapsible stock, nice weapon; only the bayonet lug is so far from the flash hider that the bayonet blade only extends half way past the flash hider and the bayonet ring cant anchor on the flash hider as it fits loosely around the barrel.
Whats up with that? Any way to fix this problem?
Thanks.

Got pic's? What kind of FS does it have ? A standard A2 or one of them long type? WD

Yes, the bayonet needs a 14.5" bbl on a carbine to fit. You need to get a special bayonet to fit it, or a silly clamp on break.

Try to get a bayo tostay on a preban Bushy Dissipator...

Same dilemma, but in the other direction.

I believe that its the standard A2 front sight assembly.
There is a special bayonet???
Would it be possible to have the front sight assembly moved forward and have a longer front handgrip installed?
Thanks

This is not a COLT problem.

The bayo is designed to work on an AR15 or an M4.  It won't mount propperly on a CAR-15

If you would have gotten a Blue label, you wouldn't have this "problem", since they didn't have bayonet lugs. Now you have seen another example of why the bayonet lug is silly and just for looks...

I'd say an AR without a bayo stud looks silly.

If you want a bayonet on a 16" barrel this is it...

Who said this was a Colt problem?  Where did you read that?

I read it in the header for this thread; as in:   "UNIGUE COLT AR15 PROBLEM???"

Any other questions?

Actually, any preban Colt 16 incher will have the bayo lug---because Colt was too damn lazy to cut them off before they had to, after the ban went into effect. When I had my own SP1 Carbine Class 3'd 25 years ago, and had the barrel reprofiled to XM177E2 confiuration, I made sure the lug was cut off; just as it was on the originals.

I guess if you'tr a knife freak, you'll have to get the special bayonet.  Me, the only blade I need is the Swiss Army knife in my pocket---but to each his own

I think he was describing the fact that his rifle is a Colt, not that the problem was present because it is a Colt.

The problem is the same for every barell that is not 14.5" or 20" or mid legnth 16".

I took it as more Anti COLT propaganda from the Ultra Left wing gaggle on this site.
