I would update my original thread on this but couldn't find it.

Anyways, I had a chamber defect in on my upper. I really didn't know what to do. I didn't have the time to call Delton this week and was reluctant to being I was the second owner. I just figured they couldn't help me. So I had the day off and decided to head to the local gunsmith. Left the gun there and went home after discussing that really, being the groove in the chamber was causing the case to expand meaning there was too much material taken out of the chamber wall, that a barrel replacement was about the only option anyways. So with that I just gave calling Delton a call. I was amazed at the exellent customer service even though I was a second owner. No understand I bought this rifle second hand but it had only been factory test fired. It was absolutley brand new. I just missed looking and inspecting the chamber. Lesson learned. But back to Delton. I was really impressed with the help and courtesy I was shown and they said they aould take care of this. So with that, off to ship it out today.

I can safely say, my next build will be with Delton. Even though the chamber had a problem, the gun still shot great. So I will be buying from Delton in the future.

Now sending this darn thing was harder than getting help from Delton. I wanted to ship with UPS. I have to locations close that ship. Unkoen to me, they would not ship "gun parts" reguardless whether it was a fully functioning gun or just half of one. I had to make a trip to downtown UPS hub to ship. They were the only UPS service center I could ship at. The others couldn't do it. what a pain. But it's on it's way. Hope to get it back soon.

If it's just an upper than it's just machine parts and not a firearm.

Yeh I tried to explain that. But as soon as the magic words "gun parts" come out of my mouth, they wouldn't touch it. I didn't want to try to pass it off as something it wasn't. It'd be my luck, it'd come up missing or get crushed and then they wouldn't want to replace it because it was improperly described. Oh well, it's on it's way. I'm just happy that Delton stood by thier stuff like they did. I was figuring they would be like most other companies and wiggle out of having to fix it. But they didn't and that made me happy enough to overlook the shipping hassle.

UPS Store = Mail Boxes Etc. = No Guns.

You have to go to the local UPS hub in order to ship firearms. Lesson learned.

Good to hear that Delton is going to help you with your upper issue.

I shipped an upper from a UPS store last fall and it wasn't a problem. The guy even asked to check it out as I was boxing it up right on the counter.

Dont tell them what is in the box.  Tell them machine parts, or tools, or direct impingement noise makers.

I use USPS for everything anyways.

I've shipped gun parts many times from the local UPS Store. They've never had a problem with it as parts aren't considered a firearm.

Surprised they did anything for you. Had a buddy with a canted front sight base on his. Didn't notice right away as he waited a few months to build a lower. Laura said that Del Ton uppers are only covered for 30 days. Said they may be able to fix it. I suppose twisting it in a vise would be the "repair".

He sold the upper to someone who didn't care. No more Del Ton parts for him.

I've done the same thing. I usually tell them it's anodized metal housings or aluminum/steel tools.

I bet you do not use them for ammo shipping.

This doesn't sound right and smells like fish. They take care of the OP's second hand gun and not your buddys'?

Deltons cs has never been in question to my knowledge.

I kind of know the owner of the UPSstore through local drag race seen. He mentioned a liscense. I would venture to guess, that it is up to the UPS store owner whether or not to purchase a loscense to do this. I would also guess there is an amount of Federal Law that has something to do with this policy, and with that said they may not feel it's worth the time and money to be allowed to ship gun parts out of thier store. I'm sure there is other requirements that have to be met to aquire this liscense also.

As far as Delton covering my rifle. I think some of the reason there was a willingness to cover this is they want it out of my hands. The liability of having a potential gun granade out there floating around with thier name on it probably peaked thier attention. When I have it back in my hands and everything is free and clear and operational, I'll be totaly relieved.

There was a groove made by excess material being removed from the chamber wall?

UPS accepts firearm parts for shipment, provided the part is not a "firearm" as defined under federal law; the contents of the package cannot be assembled to form a firearm; and the package otherwise complies with federal, state, and local law. (Note: Receivers or frames of a firearm, firearm mufflers and silencers are considered "firearms" and are accepted for transportation only if shipped in accordance with UPS's requirements for shipping firearms.)

http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/packaging/guidelines/firearms.html

Not to further get off the topic, but UPS lists no special restrictions for "parts" on their site.

You have not dealt with people at the UPS Store, have you? The ones around here will NOT accept ANYTHING firearm related and their handbooks still have Mail Boxes Etc on the front cover.

They will refer you to the local UPS hub, which in many areas of the country is not that local.

Sad but mostly true.  Our local (now defunct) Hallmark store had a shipping center for all the common carriers.  They wouldn't accept anything remotely connected to weapons.  A mile and a half down the same street, "Goin' Postal" which is a chain store as well, follows the aforementioned UPS packaging guidelines.  If you have one in your town, you should be OK there.

UPDATE:

Well got her back Friday. It took a total of almost two weeks I think for turnaround. Lura was very helpful. I feel like They realy didn't have to fix it being I was a second owner and they were new this thing had been sitting around for like a year before it was in my hands and they still stood by thier product.

I was still having a hard time figuring out some things she told me on the barrel, it was a 1 and 8 twist. Now it's a 1 and 9 twist and looks to be a few inches shorter. They could not replace the 1 and 8 twist because they no longer manufacture it or never did according to her. It was a special order barrel but had the DTI stamp on it. Thats what confused me.

Anyways, got it back, looks great and shoots even better! I inspected the casings of the first few shots. No more axpansion of the case and it's no longer chewing up the butt of the cases either. She shoots perfect and not a single loading problem. I put roughly 100 rounds through it including about 20 rounds of my reloads with zero problems.

I'm very happy with Delton at this point. Only thing that bothered me was I would have liked a tracking number to know when it was comming. I've had a few issues with UPS delivering to the wrong house. But other than that it just cost me the price of shipping to them and thats it. I am satisfied.

Delton customer service is AMAZING, i ordered a buffer spring and buffer, received a buffer spring and a large take down pin. LOL, called them that day, and they shipped me a buffer right then and there, no questions asked. i told them i would send the pin back, i had no need for it. i then shipped them back the large take down pin the next day at my expense, ($1.29) with the recite that had the mistake thanking them for the CS along with the speedy and understanding service.  (buffer arrived 3 days later) which i was very impressed with.  then a week later to my surprise another buffer came in the mail with a hand written note thanking me for my understanding that mix ups happen.

very happy customer here.
it pays to be polite and understanding!

Another +1 for Del-Ton. I got to visit their shop once when I was looking for a new upper. They were super nice and helpful. They ended up building me an upper set up the way I wanted it right there while I waited. Great quality stuff with reasonable pricing.
