Gentlemen, Well I've been here 10 weeks now and have survived 13 rocket/mortar attacks (one 45 yards from me), 1 C-130 combat dive to avoid an RPG, been hit with rocks 4 times, fired 2 warning shots, killed 21 wild dogs, spotted for an SF sniper, changed 4 M16's into M4s, got a farmer tan, recovered a .50 cal lost last year, got 2 job offers from private security companies, had 2 soldiers in my unit get hits from explosions and watched 4 civilian security personnel loose their lives. So how was your day? |
Stay safe; stay well and THANK YOU !! 5sub |

M4CARBINE- I am the S2 (Intel) NCO for a rocket artillery (MLRS) unit but I am currently the Force Protection Officer for the base I'm at. TacticalMan-3 of the civilian contractors were killed by IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). One civilian was killed after their security convoy was attacked with RPGs and small arms fire. As they were hauling ass out of the kill zone, a round hit him in the back of the head. To add insult to injury, this same guy accidentaly shot himself in the leg about a month ago. Most of the civilian security guys here are former SF or Recon marines and a few Delta. |

Thanks for your service! I say this everytime when I can (in public in front of everyone). And it goes something like this, "I bet they aren't going to _fill_in_the_blank_ in Iraq right now". This usually puts things into perspective for the people I'm around. I've never been where you are right now, but I have been in some shitholes. I feel for you and wish we could make life a little better for you. Most civies don't realize how good they have it and what you are doing there in Iraq. Watch your six! |

Thanks for the sentiments guys. I just wish I had more opportunities to wack some bad guys. As soon as I get this base secure, I'm going patrolling with the SF guys here. My boss won't let me go play until then. adh- I don't need anything right now but thanks for asking. If any of you are interested, the private security companies over here are paying $12,000 a month. The 2 biggest here on base are Custer Battles Group, and Cochise. They protect personnel working for Washington Group who are rebuilding bridges, power plants and power lines. They also do convoy security for logistics convoys. Cochise is owned by Charlie Beckwith's (1st Delta Force Commander) old executive officer. |
