| I'm planning to build/assemble an AR-15, am new to this and have a question. If I buy a RRA complete upper and complete lower, do I need anything else? Also, since this is the complete rifle, why is it cheaper to do this than buy one put together? I'm looking at approximately $620.00 (plus shipping for lower and $15.00 xfer fee) for an A2 with SS 20" barrel, can't buy one for that! |

make sure the upper comes with a complete bolt carrier and charging handle. I think the rock rivers do. If not it will cost you an additional 100-120 dollars. If you want to have some fun, buy a stripped lower and a lower parts kit and put it together. I did it with no special tools -- just some punches/hammer/screw driver/vise grip I had in the garage. (but careful not to scratch your lower. It will probably not save you alot of money, but lots of fun! |

One reason for the price difference on when you buy the lower and upper together from RRA is it will not come with the same warranty as their rifles. If you buy a complete weapon, they come with a lifetime warranty and the guys at RRA fit the uppers and lowers together so they are tight as tight. RRA is excellent quality and they are great people to deal with as well. I deal in the rifles myself (along with ABCD and O) and have had nothing but good experiences with the company. |

I would strongly recommend buying a stripped lower and then getting a parts kit. I had a TON of fun doing that and now I want to do a lot more. I got my kit from J and T distributing and it is very accurate. You can do that at just about the same price as buying the complete upper and lower I think. I didn't have to buy any tools cause I already had the basic ones. Believe me you will have lots of fun putting one together, and it definitely adds to pride in ownership. Whatever you do have fun and shoot it alot!! Edgecrusher |
| Thanks for all the inputs, it helped me to make my decision. I have ordered a complete RRA A2lower and A2 upper with 20" SS barrel. Probably next week on the lower, 2-4 weeks on the upper. Gives me time to round up the reloading dies, reloading components, magazines, etc. To those who recommended buying a stripped lower, I decided for the first one to have them build it since there really isn't any difference in price. My first build will actually just be an assembly, but that's OK, I have 3 FALs to build that have been put off too long. I predict that in the not too distant future there will be another one, a shorty that will involve switching the SS barrel to A4 NM upper & lower, and using this upper & lower for the shorty. I would have went with a A4 upper this time, but can't afford good optics yet and the handle with sights were rather expensive for something you wouldn't need later. |
