Ok things fell into place for me to start the 9mm build I have been contemplating for a while. I got a PSA pistol lower for glock mags. 8.5" bbl and the PSA hybrid bolt. I already had an old carry handle upper and quad rail that I figured would get me going. Well I knew I was going to change the rail as i didnt care for the one i had (hence why it was still laying arou d). After getting it together I found that the Cary handle puts my red too high to get any type of reasonable cheek weld. So here I am debating on what upper to upgrade to.
1) I could go with a standard upper, I know the forward assist would be useless, or I go with a slick side. 2) For a few $ more I could go with the joe bobs spattan upper that has lrbho, but it's out of stock. 3) Being that I tend to be impatiant on these things I could go for Joe bobs spartan side charging upper. It's a bit more expensive yet, but in stock. I would prefer it to have a dust cover just out of asthmatics but think I could over look that. So what are your opinions on which route I should go. |

1. Gooseneck mount your dot to the carry handle (cheap, works).
2. Anderson slick side flat top upper (actual slick side is OOS, but defector/no forward assist is ready to ship). Either of these would get you shooting and give you time to mull over more costly, long-term arrangements. |
| Where are you looking at the Anderson upper? That could be an option. As for the goose neck mount either I'm not familiar with what you are ttalking about. The only goose necicarily I am familiar with is the one that bolts into the top of the carry handle and necks down the front and over the handguard. Which would still out the red dot too high or the handle in the way. |

You are thinking of the same gooseneck I am. You said the optic was too high, not that having it co-witness with fixed irons would also bother you. If that is the case, then the goose is cooked.
I am at work, so I cannot link the upper I'm talking about from Anderson's page. It is their stripped flat-top with deflector, no forward assist, for ~$55 if I recall. And it was in-stock as of this morning. Of course, if it is merely a temporary measure, any flat-top upper would work just fine in this case. That would suit your desire to start shooting sooner than later. |
| Ok I hadn't looked directly at Andersons page. I can shoot as is with the carry handle and irons, but with my eyes (born with glaucoma) irons are much more difficult than a red dot or scope. That being said, I'm an idiot I hadn't even thought of cowitnessing the Red dot between of the irons. |

Running an L3 MRS on it. Thanks for all the time and advice, I wound up biting the bullet amd ordering the side charging upper. I don't have to worry about shooting weak side as I'm close to blind in my left eye, hence why I shoot right handed even though in left handed.
though I may go the goose neck cowitnessing route when I do decide what use this carry handle upper on. |
