I want to build my own upper but have a couple of questions.

I will be building a 14.7" carbine gas, with FSB.

Can the FSB be pinned before the barrel is assembled to the upper? How would you get the barrel nut passed the FSB?

Also will be putting MOE hand guard and would like to know what holds it all together? Is it a standard delta ring and then what about the front?

Basically if the FSB is already attached / pinned, will I be able to assemble it?

Also what about the gas tube? Will it go into the upper far enough to clear the FSB and then forward into the FSB to be pinned?

As you can probably tell, I have never built an upper before. I know I can do it, just not sure about which parts have to be or not be assembled first.

Thanks

Put the barrel nut on before pinning.

The delta ring and the handguard cap on the fsb hold the handguards on. Put the handguard cap on before the pinning too.

Yes the gas tube will clear.

OK was just wondering because some bbls I looked at appeared to have the FSB already attached.

Unless they were just showing that it comes with the bbl and not pinned yet.

Thanks

I was barrel shopping and noticed the same thing myself. I guess they figure you can drive the taper pins out, put the barrel nut etc on, then drive the pins back in.

I ended up buying a barrel with the barrel nut and handguard cap already installed so I didn't have to mess with driving the pins out. They can be a bitch from what I've read.
