I've been considering a .308 gas gun for a long time and I finally bought a DPMS LR-308 stripped lower at a good price.  I also ordered the upper receiver, so now I'm trying to figure out which barrel to put with it.  I want to use an 18" barrel and the two options I've found so far are the Fulton Armory Criterion barrel or this one from AR15hardware.  Any input on either barrel would be appreciated.

The big question is, will both of these barrels work with the Daniel Defense Lite Rail since they are approximately 1" in diameter under the handguards (.936" at the gas block)?  I'll need room for the barrel and a low profile gas block.  From pictures I've been able to find it looks like the DD lite rail will work, but I'd like confirmation if possible before spending the money.  I emailed ar15hardware and they aren't sure as they use Troy rails. I've also emailed DD, but haven't heard back.  Any help would be appreciated.

My vote is for the 18.5" medium weight barrel w/ rifle length gas tube from Fulton.

I'd prefer the rifle length gas system.  Both barrels are the same diameter at the gas port, so I'm guessing they are similar diameters in front of and behind the gas port.  Weights and diameters should be comparable if the Fulton barrel is fluted.

And if it matters to ya , I would check to make sure the hand guard rails match the height of the upper receivers rail . DPMS changed the height of the rails on there new uppers.

+ 1 on the FA bbl.. & I'm pretty sure they are not fluted.

Correct, the 18.5" barrel from FA isn't fluted, as it comes from Fulton.  To the OP:  I'm using a PRI lo-pro .936 gasblock on mine, and it would probably fit under ANY railed handquard.  Not a guarantee, but a "probably."  As low as it is, I can't see how it wouldn't fit under anything else.  Worth checking out.

Thanks for the info.  From all the pictures I've seen I figured the DD rail would work on the larger barrels with a low pro gas block, but I wasn't confident.

Sounds like the Fulton barrel is the preferred barrel.  Does anybody have experience with the ar15hardware barrel?  It's tempting because of the price and the fluting under the handguard, but if it isn't a good barrel then it isn't worth saving $50.
