I want to build an upper and stay around $600-$800.
What parts and manufacturers do you guys suggest? I have never built an upper and wanted to try it out.
I live in Calofornia.

I usually buy a cheap upper, gas block and gas tube like aero or palmetto state armory so i can spend more on a  quality barrel and quality rail. I like noveske, larue, and aero for barrels and take your pic of what handguard you like.

You can make things easy on yourself and go with a rail that uses a barrel nut that doesn't need to be timed. Examples include the Daniel Defense Lite rail series, Centurion CMR, and Geissele Mks.

These example are spendy, but if you watch the EE you may find examples that fit your budget, still.

If you aren't in a rush and have patience, you could piece together a real quality upper for that. For example, just shot an upper that I recently finished piecing together.

Larue barrel sale : $300 for 18" lightweight and lopro gas block.
Giessele mk3 blem rail: $160,  no blems I could find...
Vltor upper: I think I paid $140 something on sale from dsg.
Dsg bcg: $100. Likely could have gotten cheaper or better, but it works.
Surefire 3p flash hider: $30 clearance.

Finally put this together today, functioned perfect and was quite accurate. Add in the Amazon acog that I got for a song and you've got a fantastic dmr type weapon
