Where would any ID markings be found on an upper?
Please forgive the newby questions but I am brand spamkin new to the AR community and have just found my first AR. I can see one symbol in the metal just forward of the charging handle that looks like an old fashioned keyhole. Thanks for your patience. |

The keyhole logo (Cerro Forge) only identifies the forge that produce the raw forging that the upper receiver was produced from. Most of the major manufacturers use forge blanks with this forge mark. Does the barrel have any markings or stampings? Some barrels are stamped in areas that are covered by yhe handguards/ FF tube/rails. Does the lower receiver have a logo or manufacturers name stamped/rolled in?
I could give you a list of brands that I know of that have used Cerro forged blanks. Addex Delton DPMS Spikes Tactical LMT Knight’s Armament Double Star Smith &Wesson Daniel Defense Sabre Defense Remington BCM Bushmaster Stag J&T Distributing (Doublestar) CMMG Colt M4 (“C” keyhole) Yankee Hill |

Sounds like it's a frankenrifle, homemade assembled with parts from everywhere or an unbranded kit build. Not nesseccarily a bad thing, but unless you talk to the guy that built it you'll never know for sure who made the various parts. The Sharps lower is just a stripped lower receiver.
Now the task is to find out if it has a .223, Wilde or 5.56 chamber. Most branded guns have the chamber size marked on the barrel. Did you look for barrel markings under the handguards? CMMG uppers are barrel marked under the handguards. |

I have one and was wondering what the square meant. Thanks M50 |
