I am wanting to build an upper with a mid length gas system and railed hangaurd. My question are 1- who makes a mid length free float rail that will blend will the flat top upper to give a one rail apperance? 2-Does anyone have experience with the VLTOR VIS, and if so what are your opinions of it? 3-How hard is it to install your own barrel on a VLTOR VIS?(compared to a normal install) 4-Could a PRI folding front sight be used with either if these and in conjuction with troy folding rear or would I be better off with a Troy folding front sight? 5- Who makes, and sells a good 16" barrell with a mid length gas system and a 1/9 twist? Any help would be greatly apreactiated. I have found barrels with a 1/7 twist with a mid length gas system but I would like the 1/9 because I plan to use a .22lr conversion on this rifle a fair amount of the time and it is my understanding that the 1/9 would be better than the 1/7 for this application. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks C |

1: i think that MI, Troy, LaRue (dont know if its out yet), LMT, and Samson have the monolithic rail appearance; i think KAC's is only for CARs... 2: not me, so i cant say; but they do look cool! 3: see above 4: dont know, but i dont see how it wouldnt work w/ the PRI; either way, you can use the low troy on the rail 5: RRA, CMMG |

I have the MUR upper with a JP FF Middy tube. I love it. From what I understand with the VIS, you throw it in a vise upside down (obviously in something that will hold it upside down in a vise without jacking it up) slap your barrel in, then tighten the nut with the little wrench included with the kit and voila. Line up the gas tube when slapping said barrel into said VIS. Cake. I love the MUR look with the Larue rifle rails. I'd probably do the 12" ove a low profile gas block instead of the 9", but that's just my opinion. Although you do have to cut the Larue anti-roll mechanism thing to clear the MUR on one side. |
