So im looking at an upper reciever for purchase, Complete preferably but not averse to a stripped version.

Anyways.

Im looking at a DPMS Upper and a LaRue Stealth Upper. I was wondering if anyone knew teh difference between the two that would justify the LaRue being 100$ more expensive?

I've never used either one, but the LaRue is a billet receiver (machined out of a block of aluminum) and billet stuff is always more expensive. I'd get the DPMS.

Good morning, Mark.

ETA - I've got a lot of your mounts, and love 'em, but I can't begin to say why a billet upper is preferable to another. Can you shed some light?

So there are more billet recievers for you? lol. I like the idea of Billet over forged, stronger usually for that fact.

What sort of build are you making?

SBR, 10.5" Barrel, probably a Noveske barrel or something different when it comes time for the purchase of that specific component.

If you are building a precision rig where extreme accuracy is important go with the Larue.  They are machined to tighter tolerances, are straight and square and are beefed up over standard uppers so as to be stronger and stiffer.

If you are willing to settle for good enough in a beater type build get the DPMS.

Your choice.  I know which one I chose for my precision build and it wasn't DPMS.

I call BS!  I have many makes of lowers and uppers and one of my varmint builds
is a DPMS and it shoots .5 inch groups and less at 200 yrds.
A good barrel and bolt will make the most difference,

And yes I do have a Larue, 3 Colts, 2 DPMS, 4 Bushies, 1 SNS, 2 Spikes, 1 Pof,
2 RR, 2 PWA and a CNC 45 on the way and I like them all.

Hmm, Im gona buy the steal cuz Mark makes me laugh. lol

In all seriousness, inherently with such a short barrel the accuracy is going to be lower than that of a 16" for example. Im building this piece by piece as to get the pick of each piece, if i just wanted a cheap rifle, i would have picked up a Bushy or a RRA or something (not that they are bad, but they are INEXPENSIVE that is all) So im trying to piece together something really good.

Dude, if you are saying DPMS is as good or better than Larue you have serious issues and should seek immediate help.  Talk to people who build rifles for a living and stake their reputation on the quality and accuracy of the builds (some are even Site Sponsors here).  No one goes out of their way to build precision rifles using DPMS.  As a matter of fact go over to the AR15 subsection and listen to some of the bitching at lack of quality in DPMS rifles!  The OP asked why Larue Stealth uppers were more expensive and the answer is a lot more attention to detail goes into it hence it is more likely to straight, true and square resulting in a better product for a precision rig.  Just because you cheaped out and got lucky to get the 1 in 100,000 DPMS that shoots .25 MOA (so you claim) doesn't mean the OP will get the same fantastic and unlikely results.

I have to agree, My Precision build sports a Stealth upper.

larue is nice and so is the vltor upper.  i like the look of the vltor a bit better but they are hard to come by right now it seams.

i have a couple of larue products and i will keep adding to my list

It is about time a company produced STRAIGHT AND SQUARE uppers!  LaRue makes quality products.

Most of the uppers I've built were made by Advanced Ordnance.  Though I had to true them, these were straighter than Colt marked uppers.

I am amazed that with CNC machines, parts are not made correctly.

Hey Guys, thanks for all the help, i will be going with the stealth upper :)
