Ok i will try to make this an intelligent newbie question (probably an oxymoron, right?)

I have my 1st lower built (bushmaster lower, stag LPK) and it went together like a piece of cake so i am ready for the upper. Problem is, bushmaster flat top uppers are a arm and a leg - so what upper works best? any mil-spec? I was thinking RRA because there is a dealer near me (Legal Transfers).

Thanks in advance...

almost all uppers out there will fit your bushy lower, except for some bigger pinned colts

RRA is some of the best bang for the buck--great uppers and mr pete is great to deal with

If you're talking about the upper receiver alone, pretty much any reputable manufacturer will have a good product (LMT, Colt, BM, Mega, etc.). The upper and lower receivers, as long as they're made to spec, will work fine with any rifle. It's the parts like the bolt, bolt carrier, barrel, etc. that will vary in quality more so than the receiver itself.

RRA good. Just a note..............uppers are ATF non-gun, no "transfer" required. Kinda like buyin' shoes. Good luck on your build.
