I recently got a PSA 10.5 complete upper for a mk18 build and noticed an issue after I installed the LMT rear sight. The sight base appears to not sit flush on the upper rail leaving a ledge on the left side and an over hang on the right. The sight fits perfect on my other uppers.

I emailed PSA last monday and havent heard back yet so I figured I would see what you guys think. Is this something common or is my upper out of spec?

Did I post this in the wrong forum?

If the site lines up without a ton of adjustment I wouldn't worry about it.

Lines up with what? Its essentially crooked on the receiver rail.

im probably seeing it,,,. the place you marked how the rear site doesnt sit flush with the top of the upper receiver? i dont think it could ever be exactly flush unless you milled the sight and upper at the same time? it might look worse in person but from those pics... youll never get perfectly flush..

What I mean is...Do the sites shoot straight without a ton of windage adjustment? It doesnt look out of spec, thats pretty damn close. Carry handles dont always fit exactly perfectly either.

does it matter if theres a ton of windage adjustment? as long as it can be zeroed then its good to go right?

Well, if you are maxed out on windage just to get it zeroed, something is wrong, and if you actually need it for windage, you wont be able to adjust it.

I think it will zero due to the large windage adjustments bit it looks retarded as hell since it mounts crooked. Palmetto State said it doesnt matter as long as it zeros ....Of course it fits on my other 3 uppers perfectly and they don't find this to be abnormal at all. Go figure

Update:

So I got the digital caliper out and measured the width of the receiver rail where the rear sight is mounted.

PSA upper #1: 0.645 in
S&W upper: 0.639 in
PSA upper #2: 0.639 in
PSA upper #3: 0.639 in
LMT sight: 0.638

All 4 uppers have the same splintered A forging mark and PSA upper #1 and PSA upper #3 were bought at the same time yet there is a difference in there rail width.....

Does anyone know if this is a common variation?

Not all machine work will be perfectly the same on like parts. Forge mark doesn't matter. Instead of worrying about how it looks just go to the range and attempt to bzo the sights.
