Pondering choise of upper reciever for KISS rifle: #1) C-7 #2) A-2 #3) Flattop w/ fixed rear buis ***** What would be neat would be an upper with a fixed rear sight built in to the reciver forging...but with no carry handle; instead, some rail up front. Stronger than a removable "fixed" (non-folding) rear BUIS, while still retaining the option of slapping on a scope with proper optical axis clearance. Is this beat strictly a myth, or has one been produced? |

The UTE-2 is exactly what you described, but it would not be for many since it would potentially limit your options later. Perhaps a substantial rear BUIS would provide the results you describe. I believe LMT makes a big strong rear BUIS that would in effect fill that role, but would be 'removable' when your new ACOG arrived or when you really needed a carry handle In short, the removable option would not limit you like a UTE-2 styled upper potentially could. LMT rear BUIS ![]() and many more substantial rear BUIS options |

A scope implies magnification. You cant use one with a fixed rear. There is no need for anything stronger than a Larue rear sight on a flat top. What would you possibly gain? I can think of nothing. |
+1, and a mutant A2 / flattop setup isn't any more reliable than a CCH / LMT rear. I've got one LaRue fixed BUIS and a Troy flipper on the way, covers all bases for me... |

If you are going with an A1/C7 upper I would highly recommend that you assemble the rear sight with an A2 aperture. Also, you may want to substitute the windage drum with a Rapidex Windage Knob. This knob is easy to use, no tools to adjust, and is 1/2 MOA. At the same time, replace the round front sight post with an A2 square post. It gives a sharper image, especially in some light conditions where light is coming from one side. |
