Ok, in another thread I saw someone state that the key to accuracy pretty much lies in the uppers.  Does this apply only to the barrel/bolt combination or does the actual receiver itself play a part.  I ask because I was going to use a DPMS stripped upper to build on.  Should I be looking at a bit better quality, like a Wilson Combat Upper, or some other better quality?

Thanks,
Brian

In my experience (and I've built literally hundreds of complete rifles and uppers) the actual stripped upper has very, very little to do with accuracy.  The barrel and how it is mounted to the upper are far more important.  I've built plenty of rifles with DPMS stripped uppers that shoot fantastically.

Where do you get DPMS stripped uppers dirt cheap?  I'd really like to have one (A1, A2, or A3 - no matter) to match my DPMS lower's color better than this T-marked upper I have.

As long as the upper and lower receivers don't have a lot of wiggle/slop, the barrel, bolt, trigger, and nut behind the trigger pretty much determine precision.

I have a discount through MidwayUSA (because of my C&R Lic.) and they are only $77.99 for an A3 flattop (considering the prices Ive seen for this stripped upper I think the price is pretty cheap.)  Unfortunately right now they are out of stock and on backorder untill the end of the month.

Thank you for the info.  I have no C&R (I'm not an official cruffler) as of yet.  Oh well... I guess I'll just keep patrolling the EE.

The C&R was the single best piece of paper I could ever have gotten from the U S Government!  Sure I bought a rifle and a pistol with it.....but the discounts ALONE made the price worth it.  My discount at MidwayUSA has saved me hundreds over the last year and a half!  Plus there is a discount from Brownells available.  These two places alone make it worth it.
