This forum is such a fantastic resource. I need to take some days off work (or just retire!) to explore deeper into all the excellent reference content about building.

After recently putting together a match-grade, mid-to-long-range AR15 as a first effort, I have the following 'spare' parts left-over from various donor rifles:
- A2 stock (no buffer or action spring)
- DPMS single-stage trigger group, with pin and springs
- A2 grip (no selector-lever detent spring or detent pin)
- DPMS A-15 complete upper, includes:

   - barrel
   - gas block/front sight
   - handguards
   - charging handle
   - BCG
   - detachable carry handle/rear sight

Eying the parts, my son suggested why not use these to build another AR15? (I could see him thinking it would be 'his' rifle!)
Or maybe even just go crazy and do a more custom job? ...Really guessing at this point; we are both definitely AR15 newbies, but very enthusiastic.

A 'stripped' lower includes absolutely no component parts, right?

To build ANYTHING, I THINK we would need as a minimum:

- lower receiver (stripped, complete, or semi-complete?)
- selector-lever detent and spring
- hammer and pin
- stock buffer/spring
- stock buffer detent/spring

(and lots more)

...what else?

IMO buy:

Lower Parts Kit minus Fire Control Group
Stock buffer extension as well as spring and buffer.
Hammer

Personally I would buy:

Lower receiver of your choice.

PSA stock kit $50

Palmetto LPK minus FCG $25

PSA hammer $15

A stripped lower is stripped--no parts. You will also need the bolt catch parts, magazine catch parts, selector parts, takedown and pivot parts and a trigger guard/roll pin. Most of these include springs and detents along with the primary part.

This is almost exactly what I needed, when my dad sent me a few parts for my AR build (entire FCG and complete stock with buffer and spring), so I bought this to complete mine:
CMMG Customizable Lower Parts Kit

Take a look at the description. It has almost everything you'd need. To complete your lower, I think all you'd need is to add a trigger guard and roll pin and a hammer and spring (the kit above comes with the trigger and hammer pins).

Do this, pick up a stripped blem lower from palmetto as well and you'd be set with not too much money into it

The REAL problem with leftovers is that they tend to become rifles!
