Considering buying an extended midlength VIS.

Considering the expense, I want some opinions/experiences before I buy.

Thanks!

I have a Noveskke N4 Light Recce VIS Basic.  It's a mid-length with a standard FSB.  It is my "go to" AR, but it is heavy.  Weight is the main complaint I see about the VIS.

Thanks!

I'll have to do a weight comparison with the separate upper & handguard I'd use if I don't buy the VIS.

I've been curious about how the Aero Precision Continuous Optics Platform compares with the VIS weight-wise, but haven't done the research yet.  The VIS is heavy, but not heavy enough to justify replacing it.

If you want light weight and a continuous top rail, take a look at the PRI SPR free-float tube.  I have one (without the continuous SPR rail) on another build, and it is sturdy yet relatively lightweight (particularly if you use PRI's aluminum barrel nut.

ETA - I am not associated with Aero or PRI.

That is a sweet looking upper.

I just checked the weights, and the VIS I'm looking at is less than an ounce heavier than the one linked.  Looks like I'm going to buy!

You'll like it.

The ability to remove the bottom rail makes it easier to clean and/or do preventive maintenance on the barrel.
