I'm looking at slings by Viking Tactical and I'm really impressed by how tight you can cinch them against your body while performing non shooting tasks, like climbing. I like my rifle to dangle as little as possible while I'm performing other tasks so I was wondering if there are any other slings out there that provide as tight of a fit against the body as the VTAC?  I've hear a lot of good things about Sector Gear and the VCAS by Blue Force Gear but it looks as if their adjustment is limited.  For example, for both Sector Gear and the VCAS, it appears you slide a device forward on the sling to tighten.  However, once you reach the front attachment point on the sling, the device can't move any further and you're reached the tightest adjustment the sling can achieve.  With the VTAC, the adjustment strap hangs, so it seems that it can be pulled further without being impeded, therefore achieving a tighter adjustment.  I suppose the downside is a dangling strap and I'm curious about your thoughts on that as well.  Bottom line is, I've never handled any of these particular slings so I'm wondering if there is something I'm over looking.

Thanks.

The non-padded VCAS can be made to snug up as tight as you want it.  You just have to shorten the back end of the sling to the desired length.  I played around with both a VTAC and VCAS all year and settled on the VCAS for my rifles.  Once I started playing around with them and cutting on them I found that the VCAS can indeed be shortened enough.  Here is my carbine that I modified.

This is absolutely not true for teh padded version though.  The pad limits how short you can make the back end of the sling.  You can then shorten the adjustable portion but when you start cutting it, you begin decreasing the amount of adjustment you will have.  THis is my padded VCAS that is as short as possible without cutting more of the adjustable section.

When it all was said and done, I felt the materials on the VCAS were better and more comfortable.  THe webbing was wider and softer and no metal buckle to dig into my back and most importantly no tail or velcro piece to mess with.

I think the VTAC is the coolest sling ever.  It's a two point that acts like a 3 and is very well made.

I love the VTAC. Definately cinches up super tight. I have a VCAS as well and it is great, but it doesn't cinch up as tight, yet it doesn't have a dangling tail. No experience with the Gear Sector so I can't comment on it.

VTAC is awesome.  I use it on all my rifles.  I had one on my issue M4, and everyone asked me where I got it from.  I ended up ordering over 70 from Brownells for the guys in my troop.

VTAC gets my vote as well. No modifying needed, and pulls the rifle up nice and tight.

The Vtac is a great sling for its weapons retention ability and length adjustment.  LaRue Tactical makes sells a Vtac wide padded sling upgraded with sewn in QD attachments for use with a Magpul CTR stock or any other possible QD sling attachment you can find on the SKD Tactical Sling Section.

Below is the link to a write up I did on the use of a two point sling vs. the single point and a small modification to the Vtac sling in order to make it more efficient in high stress environment shooting.

The Team at Impact Weapons Components run Padded VTAC slings and we really like them.

We recently purchased a Gear Sector Two Point and like it as well. A plus for the Gear Sector is side release buckles on each end which allow you to get out of the sling, and change the connector used to attach the sling to the rifle. IWC has a SCAR 16S which needs HK Hooks and our other rifles use Push Button Quick Detach Swivels. So the GS makes it easy to swap between rifles.

Both cinch up as tight... No difference.

Both are made is USA of top quality craftsmanship.

We sell both as well.

VTAC slings on GTG!  I use them on personal and duty carbines!

Love the cinch factor and ease of use.

shocked that no one has yet added the fact that this sling is probably the best accuracy enhancer next to a good optic you can add to your weapon!

wrap your offhand in the sling and snug it up perfect––you are now one with the weapon!

in the USMC we would wrap our arms ––-it was good but this VTAC adjusts just right  and then unadjusts just as fast as the situation dictates.

all real internet commandos use 'em

Interweb commando checking in...

I actually shoot my AR..new Spikes on order...and want upgraded slings.
If I chose the VTAC, do these work just fine with OEM front rear attachments points? And, what if I add a Magpull ASAP or similar to the rear...Sling is still GTG?

Thanks for the help..just want to get a sling with more options than OEM...

You'll need something that mounts the sling on the side of the rifle rather than the bottom.

Right now I'm running the MAgpul MOE handguards. And, I have a light attached on the left. Are the Magpul screw on rails gtg for a sling mount...maybe I'll move my light over to the right side and go with a switch...Fun show today in the Peoples Republic of Portland...I'll shop around...

Thanks for the help

We make MOUNT-N-SLOT direct attach sling and other mounts which attach directly to MOE hand guards, eliminating the need for bolt on rail sections, saving weight, cost and bulk.

Check them out at: Impact Weapons Components

Thanks!

Just got my first VTAC sling in the mail this week. It was easy to attach and works perfectly. It's very simple to adjust and within minutes I was able to quickly move it between different positions. It will be staying on my AR.

Ordered a VCAS. I like it. Not as tight as my VTAC but I don't think it needs to be.

I like it.

Iwc makes good stuff......I have their offset light mount and limited rotation swivel attachment on my moe handguards. Both on the charging side with plenty of room(added because someone mentioned moving their light).

This is probably a nube question but are the 5.11 VTAC slings the same VTAC slings you guys are talking about?

If so, what are the hot ones to stock/sell?

The 5.11 version is made in a foreign country using different materials vs. the VTAC available directly from Viking Tactics, Inc, which are made by Americans in North Carolina.
