Got a Middy barrel and I am looking at the JP V-TAC hand guards, anyone have pics of a V-TAC handguard Midlenght on a 16" middy with a Vltor style gas block? I have found a few rifle lenght pics but would like to see their middy before I decide.

Thanks.

Best advice I ever got on rail systems is to buy a Daniel Defense LITE.  The rail system by which all others are judged.

I am torn deeply between the two to be honest. What are you a mind reader??? I love the looks of the  DD Lite. However I have two mid lenghts that I am working on. I have a complete mid upper with standard guards but I just picked up a Denny's SS mid barrel and want to give the JP guards a try for now. I was gung ho to go with the DD but it is about $100 more.  Pics might help me decide.  Your killing me here.....  Oh this friggin BRD crap sucks! Well just the cash out of the wallet!

Pics anyone!

I actually took that upper off and parted it out.  I'm a retard and have severe ADD.

Is that first rifle a .300 Whisper?  It looks like an awful short gas system on that barrel to be a 5.56.

.
Yes it is

Just to further confuse the issue, these handguards are worth a look as well.  www.apexcncmachine.com

It's kind of uncouth to advertise in the tech sections.

The VTAC is a bitch to install.
The instructions say to lock tight part of it, and let it set for 24 hours.  To install a FF tube.

srsly?

This is the reason, I've steered clear of the VTAC, not specifically on the install. I have a friend who picked one up on an assembled rifle. It's beautiful. He wanted to make some changes and embarked upon tearing it down. It was a mess, even with heat. I'm sure it is very solid but just more potential frustration than I choose to look forward towards.

I'm getting ready to install a mid length on a 16 inch CMMG. I'm concerned about the Red Loctite too.  I'm going to try using blue loctite or even the green stuff which if I have to disassemble will require less torque and heat.  I have an oxy-acetylene torch so heat is not a problem but I am concerned that it may damage the finish on the upper receiver if I really had to heat it to high temps.   The thing with red loctite is that it takes a good high temp to liquify, but once it is it is easy to unthread.

Put a drill bit in the gas tube hole to index the collar.  No loctite needed.

I just looked at the parts and re-read the instructions and yes...the drill bit (inserted from the upper receiver side without interfering with the inner barrel nut) to keep the collar (outer receiver nut) aligned while torquing the inner barrel nut should work very well.  The torque of the inner barrel nut should tension the barrel and and the other receiver nut to keep it all tight just like a standard barrel nut installation.  Thanks for pointing this out!  I just received my mid length top rail Saturday (I already had the mid length tube) from MidwayUSA where they have the best prices on the parts.  I hope to get the parts installed this week...I'll post pictures for the OP...a mid length VTAC.

BTW, this is a mid length posted earlier:

you are one fart smeller smart feller
I have installed over 30 of the Vtac handguards and always used a drill bit
no need for loctite.

Hell, it may have been you that gave me that idea

Will the screws holding the tube to the outer barrel nut come loose without loctite or can one torque them enough to prevent them backing out when firing the weapon.

There's a midlength (OD green anodized) on the EE right now:
HERE
$125, that's like half price!
Trying to find something i need it on...

MidwayUSA has them new for about $143.  They also have the rail pieces for about $63.  Those were the best prices I could find from a retailer.  They also just got the rifle lengths in stock.  I'm tempted to buy on for a later build.
