@GrantS I was looking at that very same optic the other day. IM me or report back here with your findings, if you can. I'm curious how it holds up to the mighty 338 myself!

I mounted the Vector on my 12.5" 5.56 so I could kneel in 1 position and swap the rifles back and forth.

I did this off of my deck with the rifles rested on the railing. There are some tall bushes/thin trees that have lost their leaves (but have berries) between me and where I was looking. The roof I was looking at is right at 190-200 meters per google maps. The roof is a light reddish brown color. The background is evergreen trees that are roughly 617 meters away per google maps. The roof has a thin white pole off the peak with a white box that appears to be a weather station. There are also power lines on the other side in front of the trees.

It's fairly cloudy here today, but the sun did come out some. The only places I could detect chromatic aberration were the white pole/weather station and the power lines as they appeared bright/shiny. Both scopes had a bit of purple fringing on both of those things. It was REALLY hard for me to tell the difference between the 2. On 10x, I might give Vector the edge. 12x increased it slightly, but no more than the MK4HD.

As far as clarity/clearness of the glass, this is also tough. The MK4HD not having a parallax is just mind boggling. I could focus on the branches/berries that are 40 meters away and the 200m weather station seemingly at the same time. It gave this allusion that the MK4HD was clearer as there was no adjusting and whatever my eye looked at was in focus. However, if I adjusted the parallax on the Vector to each thing I was looking at, it seemed equally as clear.

I really like the extra 2x and the reticle the Vector offers. Since this is for my 12.5" 6 ARC, I will dial if I have the time, but having the tree to make shots more quickly is a positive. The only downside to this reticle is it doesn't have any intermediate subtension marks between the mil marks.

My MK4HD is the non-illuminated TMR, so the lines aren't as thick as the illuminated version, but the .1 mil lines go to the center with a .1 mil hole in lieu of a .1 mil (or similar) dot in the middle with .5 mils of space before the lines start. The reticle seems useable to 5 mils, but it gets twice as thick there and loses the .5 mil subtensions. At 10 mils it is crazy thick and not useable for a holdover. The 800 yard holdover on a 12.5" 6 ARC is around 9.8 mils. I will definitely be dialing for anything beyond 500 yards if I keep this scope.

I can't keep both right now, so one has to go. I am really torn. My snootiness and desire for nice things wants to keep the MK4HD due to being twice as expensive and perception that it is better partially due to cost. However, my eyes can't tell the difference so far to 600 yards.

Got to my indoor range tonight. The extra 2x and reticle really make a difference. Also the adjustable parallax. I had a new barrel on as well and the target is pretty blurry at 25 yards with the MK4HD. After tonight I'm 97% sure I'm keeping the Vector. I'll see if I can take it out to distance this weekend. The only thing I didn't like was I had to adjust the Vector up almost 5 mils and didn't have to touch the MK4HD (which was brought down maybe a mil previously with a different barrel).

Rainy day at my handgun class today. Didn't get to shoot my rifle at all, but I did get it out and look at the mountain in the distance. There was an excavator on it at a little over 1,200 yards that looked as clear through the scope as it did to my eye, only bigger. Didn't take any other scopes to compare. Unfortunately I won't make it to day 2 of the class tomorrow. Not sure when I'll get it outside for distance, but I am keeping it.

Okay, activated inner child and took advantage of daylight savings time to manhandle the continental 4-24x56 scff-29 a little bit in the backyard without leaving a trace before anyone else woke up this morning.

As this was a timed stealth mission, all impressions are from freehanding it. No pics or pulling out my other scopes for direct comparison.

Off the back patio, i have views from neithbor's houses as close as 25y away to mountains seventeenish miles away.

Glass is excellent, i truly wish i could do side by side comparisons to my other scopes, but I am extremely pleased. I can view everything clearly and  there's no darkening while cranking magnification up to 24x. No noticable ca (to me) either.

Locking turrets, so welcomed as it's replacing a pst 2 5-25x. Audible, crisp, no mushy in between adjustments. Nice.

Paralax works as it should, can also get nice focus near and far without having paralax adjusted perfectly to either. Nice.

Mag ring is smooth, might even be a bit smoother than my constantine 1-8x24. Nice.

Diopter is smooth as well, no noticable wiggle. Nice.

Surprisingly lighter weight and more proportional than i was expecting. Nice.

I understand this is pretty subjective, but it's all i can provide until christmas.

Hope this helps.

How is the center dot size on that reticle? It's hard to tell based on the drawings and pictures on their site. I don't like the size of the Athlon 2-12 dot, and I think the dot in my Vector 2-12 is too big for precision, especially in a higher mag scope.

If my math is correct, center dot of the vct-34 reticle is 0.41256 moa (0.12 mil x 3.438).

If you regularly shoot better than that or smaller targets at distance and dial for center dot rather than use reticle tree and that 0.4 moa might cover too much of, you'll want the scff-40, or at least vector's long range prs reticle vec-mbr that's more like the vortex ebr reticles.

The vec-mbr reticle has a free float fine crosshair around a free float center dot that's 0.13752 moa (0.04 mil x 3.438).

Sorry for the double quoting, but i just reread your question and think i missed your point with my last reply.

I had the same debate between the two reticles i mentioned in my previous post, i like the vec-mbr reticle as it is basically vortex's ebr 7c reticle with subtensions between mils and super precise, but I am a reticle shooter over dialing, and went with the slightly larger center dot and longer thicker center post of the vct-34 reticle instead for the speed closer in. So, for me and what i intend to use it for, it's not an issue.

Last one, i swear i'm not that fat bitch you took home at 0200 and is now stalking you.

Pics stolen from the web

Vct-34 reticle (no idea why theirs darkened)

Vec-mbr at roughly 1000m

My scff-29 vct-34 reticle looks just as good as the vec-mbr pics in real life, just with the slightly larger center dot and no free float crosshair.

It is. Assuming they hold zero and don't fall apart, I'm struggling to see the benefit in spending high dollar on scopes as they punch above their price point on features and glass quality so far. I'm still struggling with the concept of picking the 2-12 over my Mk4 2.5-10. I'm looking hard at the 3-18 and 4-24 to replace my Viper 3-15. I'm also considering the Optika6 you just returned, the Athlon Ares ETR, and Burris XTR III. The Athlon is the only one close in price.

It's the Victoptics S6 1-6 on Vectors site, the black with mount and throw lever. I have two I just put one in cart with coupon code it was $114.30 total, they may have went up a tad I got mine months ago when this thread started. Definitely worth a try in my opinion.

I think that’s a solid choice. I’m no expert but I looked at a mark5hd side by side with an XTR3 and the mark5 had clearer glass. It really knocked the xtr3 out of the running when it got darker. I hear the mark4 has similar glass so that’s why I think you made a good choice.

I've heard the same about MK4 glass. I'll be able to compare in a few days! I'm going to move my MK5 3.6-18 to my 18" 5.56 SPR and put the MK4 6-24 on my 18" 6mm ARC SPR.

I've never thought of this. Behind the dot magnifies the field of view and dot. I wonder if in front would keep the dot smaller in reference to the target in lieu of magnifying them both?

With prisms, there are people who have been putting 3x magnifiers in front of the 1x prism due to the prism's short eye relief. Maybe it's similar?
11/7/2025 1:54:14 PM EDT
[#29]
I have all the options so maybe it's time to play around with some and see what works. The magnifier behind the 1x prism would never work for me as I could not get the diopters to work together. I lived how the magnifier made the 1x prism reticle actually usable.

Magnifier in front of the reddot would keep the dot small but the image magnified so that could be a plus on small targets.

By putting the magnifier in front of the red dot, you'll have some movement in the zero/point of impact when you move the magnifier in and out the front of the red dot. That's why the traditional setup has always been to put it behind. For air guns and closer range work, will it matter, probably not a whole lot, but at 100 yards, you'll see some movement if you you are doing everything right and the only change is adding/removing the magnifier.

Currently have the Paragon 4x and the Marverick rubber armored micro red dot.

The Paragon has some very decent glass but I only got to shoot it today late in the day with failing light. Will take it out at an earlier time and compare it to a TA31 to really see how it does.

Not super thrilled with the 1moa adjustment values but I got it zeroed within 0.3moa. Shot some very decent groups of 1.3moa and 1moa 10rd groups with handloaded 77s meant for a different rifle. Also not very trusting of the very cheap mount and hardware. I went with their RUM cantilever mount to get the eye relief where I need it.

The Maverick red dot, jury is still out on it. The lens covers are very flimsy and I shimmed them with tape to help them stay closed, they would pop open if you looked at them wrong. The refresh rate is horrific and if you transition the rifle from target to target its like a row of red dots.

Not surprised in the very least, the price point being what they are, theres no free lunch.

ETA The Allen wrench they included, I used to remove the OEM mount to put it on an offset mount. I used it on 3 of the screws no problem, the 4th, the wrench itself rounded and was about to start cursing until I used another wrench I had on the bench be careful with the hardware and included tools folks.

Anyone had a chance to try the Frenzy SCRD-75?

Amazon Product
  • \u3010Slim-edged Window Design with a Wide Field of View\u3011- 1x18x22 window size offers a wide, unobstructed field of view, allowing for faster target acquisition and greater situational awareness, making it ideal for dynamic shooting scenarios

I'm looking for a stand in/fill in for an ACRO P2 until I decide if I want to go all in on a couple of P2's so I'm hoping to find something with a similar window size and feel, even if the user controls are totally different.

Thanks

What did you pay for '75 model (acro version) I'm curious to see if similar or better pricing may come up between today and Monday.

Thanks

$189 minus 20% with the spin20% code (I've also used spin15% since its one time use per account)

It's been $189 for a while since release. Vector's "sales" are really just always the normal prices, i dont usually see any of the popular products like the 2-12, this mailbox rds, or a few other popular items ever go on deeper discount but I will say I started my vector journey post-black friday in 2024 so idk what their actual BF sale is like if they even have one.

I ordered a Vector Optics 30mm mount off Amazon (they were $20 shipped) and there was an FDE model. Got it today and it looks like some sort of new model not exactly like the pics on the Amazon website.

It's very nice, has 2 recoil lugs and 4 base screws - but the anno color is like rose gold and definitely not FDE

It also works with their $20 top-ring mount for RMR/DPP footprint optics.

For $40 total it's not a bad mount. It also looks like this new version has side-screws for future 45* mounting options but I dont see anything on their website about it.

Steel threadserts in the bolt holes or just the bolt directly to the aluminum?

Zooming in on the picture looks like the threads are in the aluminum and not a helicoil.

Directly. See below.

Correct. For $20 I don’t think there would be helicoils. I torqued all the screws to 20in lbs with a torque driver and some purple loctite and it all seems snug.

IMO this is on par with the Aero and Vortex Sport mounts - which is still nice for $20 as opposed to $90+

It looks like Vector has added some new inventory and these newly updated Tauron 'premium line' scopes are now available. https://vector2007.com/products/target-shooting-tauron-4-16x44-hd-mil-ffp-rifle-scope-scff-79

If anyone has been reading this thread you know I've been procrastinating big time on buying the continental 2-12...

These new ones have LaREE HD glass, but not the 'german schott glass' from the continental line. From the Vector website specs blog post these are one level below the german lenses.

I'm wondering if these are a nice and cheaper competitor to the Vortex Venom and Strike Eagle line of scopes. With the 15-20% off codes these are sub-$200 so I might take a flyer and order one or two to put on my .22 build and compare against the Venom 3-15 on my SPR right now.
