I've been looking everywhere for velocity data on the M855 cartridge. Specifically, I need to know what the velocity of the round will be at 300 yards if fired from a 16-inch barrel. Anyone out there able to answer this questions. Not to be picky, but I need you to cite your sources.
Thanks in advance.

Google: m855 specs

third result: http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=434

ETA: to get the velocity at 300 yards, throw it in a ballistics calculator such as jbm ballistics.

In regards to the JBM calculator, I see plenty of info for trajectory, but can't find a section for calculating the far velocity.
Perhaps I'm looking right at it, but not seeing it. Mind pointing out the obvious for me?

The trajectory results will also report velocity.

Are you looking at the table output? It shows the velocity at each yardage along with everything else like drop.

Keep in mind, these predictions are estimated based on your inputs and a constant BC. Real world results will vary.

How significant you might consider the difference between your rig and some quoted source is up to you.

The length of the bbl is only one variable, there would be many others to consider for getting results to match within a reasonable uncertainty even for the same muzzle velocity and cartridge.
