Are there any forward pistol grips for black rifles that will mount to a standard handguard, that is one that does not have rails on it?

No. But you can buy a small rail that attaches to the handguards through the vent holes. Then you can put a grip/light on it.

Yea, promag makes a rail that can be bolted to the lower half of the handguard(have to specify CAR or M4).  I tried it for a bit and it works OK, but you will end up switching to a rail system.  The VFG/stock handguard will wiggle up and down, even the most basic full drop in rail systems will lock up tight.  May as well just save up.  What handguard do you have?  M4 or CAR?

Looks like this on an M4(its tapered).  I used it for a bit to make sure I wanted a VFG before buying a full rail system.  Worked ok for what it is.  Got the CAA stock saddle to see if I wanted a SOPMOD buttstock.  Spent $40 for a few things to try before laying out over $500

Yeah, mine is slightly tapered like that.  My black rifle is a Stag Arms 16" carbine.

Even if I decided on the rail system that plugs into the vent holes, would that not reduce heat dissipation?  That would seem to be a problem to me under extended firing.

I had one on my oem handguards . Mine was short though. It only utilized two holes instead of the entire lower. Cost was about $20. I didn't care much for it because it had some movement due to the screws being a tad smaller than the hole size. Decided on a rail instead.
