I stumbeled across this a few weeks back.  It seems pretty compelling.  It is a scope that instantantly toggles between 1X and 4X w/ some emergency BUIS on its top.  I don't quite know how it does it.  I don't know if you look through it or what.  Ultimately it is something that probably isn't as good at CQB as an Eotech or at certain things as a variable power scope.  Prior to the the best setup would be to target a semi distant target w/ an EoTech on top of a scope, and then drop your head and look throught the scope.  I guess w/ the your transiton from pointing at a target to actually zeroing on him would be alot quicker b/c you wouldn't have to move your head or change your eye focus so much, but it would be kind of low mounted for true CQB shooting.

Elcan DR

Has anyone else ever heard of these or used or bought one???

A friend of mine has the Elcan on a 6.8SPC rifle that he just had built.  Now I have only used the scope once but it is by far my favorite optic.  I found the optic to be very clear and multiple target shots at a 100 yards were a breeze.

How do you go back and forth b/t the 1X and 4X?   Is it somehow automatic?  Is it really more effective at a mere 100 yards than an EO Tech when you are shooting w/o a real slow target shooting type aim?

To me the more pressing concern is do you have $2500 to drop on an optic?

Its $1450 not $2500 and includes the mount.

There is a lever on the left side which switches a prism so you can go directly to 4X there are no intermediates powers like a traditional variable.

Whoops, mistyped, I meant to say $1500

I guess I think that there are better, more cost-effective options.  But, the thing is damn cool!

I have done searches on this thing and the only thread that comes up is this.

The decision between and ACOG w/Dr Optic and this is a difficult one that I am trying to make.

Edited: Sorry, same thread as above.

the advantage to having a holo sight mounted over a scope such as you are talking about is that in CQB you are already set up for Heads Up shooting w/o having to go to a full cheek resst w/ the non magnified optic.  Howerver, when you are shooting at targets at at least 50 yards or greater, being able to zoom on them w/o having to transition in and out of a solid cheek weld would be nice.

FaustRocket,
why don't you put the Dr Optic over the Elcan.  Than way you have toggeling 1-4x shooting w/ a cheek weld, and the Dr optic on top for a heads up CQB non-cheek weld shooting.

Edited to add: Another benefit of the Elcan is that you could use the same NV viewer and mount for magnified and non magnified night vision.  Not so the the other you mentioned.  Realy the only single benef of the ACOG/DR Optic over the elcan is the back up illumination scheme.
