My first post here - I thought this would be the best place get input from the experts on what this AR upper is????  I have been working with the AR platform for 25 years and never seen anything like this.  An online search found no info at all. I passed it around the locals and no real solid answers.

Details - It is 18 3/16" long, the round front portion is 2 1/4" in diameter and it weighs just over 6 lbs. Number 98200-1 74 on the side - no other markings.   I can provide more photos if necessary.

Thanks for any info - also please let me know if this was put in the wrong forum section.

Weird... No idea on what it might be. Sorry.

Kinda looks like what the apes might have on Planet of the Apes if they had not settled on M1 carbines first.
Early MRP gun?
It can't be too old as the forging seems to allow for a full length picatinny rail....i.e. no carry handle.

Could be a forging that somehow made it out of the facility that works for LMT or another manufacturer of monolithic uppers...
Tired of guessing. Will let someone else try

Dunno, but maybe Colt 6940 proto?

Obviously it is a forging for a monolithic upper but as to what brand, not a clue.

Could be of the integral rail uppers.

OK - that's what it is for -  I knew someone here would know.  All the monolithic uppers I have seen were CNC from billet - It would take a large company to spend the money for dies to forge this piece.
Thanks to everyone for the info.
