I'm want to order a vise block for my AR today, and i notice there's a very wide spread in prices. For example, at Black Rifle Works i can get one for $15. If i click over to Brownells i see 2 ?? priced at 52 and 72 bucks respectively.
My spidey sense tells me that pay-once/cry-once applies here but i'm out of my depth and would be grateful for opinions. Thanks! |

I think I would get the one from Black Rifle Works, just because it says its for a "Lover Receiver" and it might have multiple uses that the older kids haven't explained to me yet.
But as far as using it to hold a rifle up in the air, I use a carved up chunk of wood and I've never felt like I really should have paid money to get anything more sophisticated. Of course it's only natural to want to place wood in the lover receiver. Edit: It's kind of hard to tell what Brownell's is advertising in that link, but the copy seems to say that you could use the lower block to install and remove barrels. But I don't see any provision to clamp the upper alone for that job. Since they're advertising 2 products but only showing 1, I'm guessing the $78 price shown there is for the pictured lower block plus the clamshell for the upper, as shown elsewhere on the site. Probably a moot point, the OP said he wanted to buy one on Tuesday. |
