I need some help selecting a laser for my Bushmaster. At first I was looking at the Streamlight M6 because of the price and ease of use. I started shopping before I placed an order and see that Surefire manufactures a laser on setup but is more than twice the price. The only difference I can see is that the Surefire says that the laser in "visible." Does this mean that you can actually see a red beam not just a dot on the wall? I am a bit confused. Please send any suggestions. The Surefire I was looking at is the SFL72. |

The M6 is less expensive, but with the L72, you will get what you pay for. It maintains a clearer smaller dot at a longer range. For example if a S.W.A.T. type marksman were on a roof, holding on a target in a window 1 1/2 blocks away, he would be using a Surefire L72 type laser. Not an IT M6. The word " visible " applies to the dot meaning that it is not an IR laser aimer ( laser that you can only see with NV EQ ). The beam is not visible. |

Lasers unless IR, have no real pourpose beyond 50 or 100 yds. They are not normally tasked with precision roles, but instead, close range work where the advantage of not haveing to bring the weapon to the sholder or not having to see the sights is reason enough to use one. (I really think the only two reasons (I would want) to use one is on a handgun, where really sights just suck when [in a high stress situation] you have trouble concentrateing 100% on the sights.) And with a sound suppressor on a handgun. Yeah the L72 is great, but it isn't a handgun laser and its price is more than most handguns, and some rifles. "holding on a target in a window" Why the hell would he do that? the beam can easilly be diffracted in glass and his point of aim totally screwed up. This is one of the weaknesses of lasers, if even a blade of grass gets between the beam and the target the sighting method is screwed and there is no sight picture. As far as I see it though, if money is no object why buy a M3 when you can buy an M6 and at least have another redundant sighting method at your disposal at almost no cost as far as weight and size are concerned. Maybe one day you will find yourself in an awkward position where it will come in handy (firing over a wall while looking through a hole [maybe it will give you some advantage at some point down the line] The Surefire L72 weighs about 3/4 of a pound. |

The Surefire laser is a better laser but just not worth it for what you or I would use for. The M6 would be a very good way to go. A light + laser for in the mid $200's is a great way to go. If you get form us and do not like it we will take it back no problem. Thanks for the advice. I felt that the M6 was the way to go for what I will be doing with it, just wanted to get a few more opinions. CSgunworks (Mike)- This is Justin Oakes by the way. Thank you for the fast shipping on the ARMS 19s. I just tracked it and it should arrive tomorrow (1/23). |

I have a m6 on my duty handgun and for that it is excellent. It has deesculated situations three times in the last 90 days, one of which probably saved one of their lives, because at the last second he realized he really was about to die. That said I really dont like the m3 or m6 for rifles other than CQB. The light is not tight enough patterned for over 50 yards. The laser at night is very good. It remains small. I can shine it both on my neighbors house and my barn and see it clearly at night, both of which are over 1/4 of a mile away. You might wait and see if the new improved m6 (m6x?) has a better range. Or you can go to two lights. The m6 for close and a higher powered one for range. |
