Well, after a year out the AR world, I recently purchased a new DD M4V7. My issue is this-I wear contacts for distance and use progressive reading glasses for close up work. I cannot clearly visualize the front sight on my rifle or handguns, hence I point shoot my pistol. I have a Vortex Strikefire red dot, which is OK but he dot is a bit large/fuzzy with the contacts. I cannot shoot with the magnifier without my glasses on. I was wondering if anyone else has this issue, and if so, what sight have you experienced to be better? Does a micro dot help or would an Eotech work better? Suggestions?

This could be due to having an astigmatism. A quick Google search regarding astigmatism and red dot sight will yield plenty of explanations.

From what I understand, if I recall correctly, Trijicon ACOGs are good for astigmatism due to their design and the reticle should be crisp. I would confirm this though by checking out an ACOG at a local dealer/shop.

Many should be along soon to offer more knowledgeable & experienced input.

Most magnified optics should work. If you are having trouble with one red dot, you're going to have trouble with all of them.

Here's a topic I just found about Eotechs & Astigmatism. It sounds like you would have the same trouble with Eotechs as well.

I had a similar problem.  I wear contacts, tried a red dot and didn't like how the dot looked.  I ended up going with a Weaver 1-3 scope, and love it.  No issues looking through it.

I have the same problem with red dots my solution is don't even try to focus on the dot ,I keep both eyes open and look at the dot but don't try to focus in on it.
Kinda hard to explain, but you know what I mean?

Due to astigmatism I finally gave up on Eotechs/Aimpoints and settled on the Leupold Prismatic 1x, its adjustable focus makes for a sharp/clear reticle & sight picture. Range report here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_43/368648_Range_Report__The_Leupold_Prismatic_Revisited.html
