I saw a post-ban AR at a gunshow, which had a muzzle brake on it with holes down either side.  As much as I disliked the look of it, I ordered a permanently installed muzzle brake on my kit when I ordered it to stay within the parameters of the law.

Imagine my surprise when my barrel came with an awesome looking muzzle brake, which to me looks just like an A2 Flash hider.  Very nice, very cool looking!

My question is how can I convince any authorities who may question me that it is indeed a MB and not a FH?  J&T told me that the MB has less slots (mine has 4) and an opening which is only slightly larger than the bullet (which describes mine.)  Is that to say that a true flash hider has many more slots than 4 and a larger opening at the end?

If so, how exactly does a FH work versus a MB?  I can't seem to grasp the difference in how one would hide a muzzle flash and the other not so when they seem so similar.

Thanks!

I had a MB like that on my old post ban, but it got loose ater shooting about 200 rounds through it...  I did like the way it looked though, it is similar to the A2 FH.

To answer your question, ask them to let you demonstrate by firing the weapon...  when they see the flash come out the end, they'll KNOW it's not a flash hider...  don't shoot that weapon at night without sunglasses... LOL!
