do standard mil-spec collapsible buttstocks fit the Vltor A5 7-position receiver extension?

I want to get the Vltor A5 7-position receiver extension and corresponding recoil buffer and spring, but I don't want the Vltor Emod buttstock...

Yes. I have a Magpul CTR stock on one.  Any Mil Spec stock should work.

The magpul acs fits also, but most stocks will not collapse fully, only 6 positions

This. Any mil-spec diameter buttstock will work, however you will have about a 1" gap between the lower receiver end plate and the buttstock when fully collapsed since the a5 tube is longer than a carbine tube. May bother some, not me.

will the Magpul MOE fixed stock fit on the Vltor 7-position receiver extension/buffer tube?

A IIRC I think it uses it's own tube?

2 if not, why not just use rifle length at that point?

According to Vltor any milspec stock will fit on it, It will only affect the closing of it all the way. Apparently the EMOD is a little bit longer than the other Vltor stocks. But yes pick and choose whatever stock you want it just may not collapse all the way

The good thing about the A5 is

It uses a Rifle Buffer Spring and the A5 Buffer weights about the same A2 rifle buffer

The A5 stock was a little butt heavy for me, but well built.

I went back to the LMT SOPMOD on the A5 extension.

SOPMOD on an A5 extension is about as good as it gets IMHO.
