| Been looking at the Vortex strikefire. Looks like a good optic for the budget. Would you pick up a Vortex strikefire over an Eotech with the same price? Thanks. |

I own several StrikeFires and one XPS2-0.
At $150, it's really hard to beat the Strikefire for value. As much as I prefer the donut dot reticle to just the dot, I can buy three StrikeFires for the price of one XPS2. I guess if I were to offer any "advice" it's that at the price you'll pay for the StrikeFire, start there and see if it meets your need. If it does, you've saved yourself $300. If it doesn't, you can either sell it on the EE and not take too much of a beating or just repurpose it to a different rifle. |
| I don't think the Strikefire can be recommended for duty quite yet. If it was put through a test like LAV did with the Daniel Defense mount and T1, maybe, but I'd put one on a training gun and abuse the crap out of it and see what happens. The two things I don't like about it is the side mount on/off and the fact it shuts itself off after 4hrs. My Aimpoints remain constant on. Months at a time. It does provide a green dot option and has held zero on several carbines I've shot mine with. 9mm CX4, 10.5" and 16" 762x39 ARs. Never a zero shift issue or quitting while going on a rapid fire string. About 2000rds thru it. Just sold it today since I'm reducing my upper collection by 1...I liked it though. |

One thing that is often looked over is the shooter's eyesight.
My eyesight sucks and i have a very slight astigmatism. This makes the EoTech's reticule more blurry than I'd like. The EoTech is great with glasses on though. Conversely, a dot doesn't get very blurry. That being said, I still chose the EoTech for a bunch of reasons. I'd advise finding a used 512. They can be had for ~$300. About 2x the price of your vortex, but still very acquirable. |

I had the strike fire. It was nice, however I sold it and used the money to buy and EoTech. I liked the reticle better on the Eo. The Vortex should only cost you $200. I don't think you could find any EoTech for that price. I was hoping to find one in the EE, but going thru those available it seems even a used EOtech or Aimpoint still cost more that a Vortex strikefire. |
