It is some kind of coating done by CMMG.  If it is it is not chrome lined.

It was a CMMG upper and the guy said it was better than chrome-lined.  Thanks for the info

no. I was really looking for another middy upper for the lower I built.  I'm not too smart cause I should have bought it.  He shot me a pretty fair price.
