Why on earth are the flip up sites for the front and back so ding dang expensive? I like the Yankee Hill ones mainly because I use a couple other of their products, but geesh...... Close to $200.00 for just sites? |
BrightFlashLights has the Yankee Hill sights you want for under $150 delivered for a flip front sight/gas block and flip rear.![]()

I do feel that some sights are over-priced. Quite honestly, I don't believe most iron sights should be costing as much as they do, seeing how iron sights and the AR15 have been around for a long time. But here's the catch: You go into a car dealership and look at the cost differences between one car and the next. Is the car that's worth 10k more really worth 10k more? Is the fact that one is one year older makes it so much cheaper? Same car, same mileage, just more features than the next. But to the credit of the manufacturers of sights, sights are decently precise pieces of machinery. They're not just a pile of screws and nuts, and some amount of quality control is put into making them. But should they be costing as much as a gun barrel, or more than a whole receiver? Absolutely not. I use the ones made by yankee hill (the flip up sight/gas block and a rear BUIS), and so far I'm doing pretty well with them. I wouldn't imagine comparable iron sights costing 100 bucks more would make me shoot any better. |

Supply and demand. Those that are demanding, tend to have a bit more money than your regular Joe. I wouldn't doubt that the makers of AR15 parts has noticed this as well. Look at some of the picture threads here. There are guys with several thousands dollars into just their rifles. This doesn't even include the thousands that they have in mounts, optics, and other accessories. |
+1 Couldn't have said it better myself. Did you notice that some rails and free float tubes are costing more than barrels? A gun barrel is on many orders of magnitude more precise than many other things that are on some of these guns, yet they're strangely not the most expensive piece (exception of scopes.). My general rule of thumb is: if the accessory costs more than that which is being accessorized, it probably isn't worth as much as you think. |
Yeah, nothing LaRue makes for an AR is less than $200.00......... ![]() Except for the LT-103 LT-606 LT-607 LT-124 LT-170 LT-172 LT-101 LT-123 LT-171 LT-602 LT-105 LT-100 LT-66x LT-106 LT-129 LT-150 LT-152 LT-110 LT-137 LT-133 LT-114 LT-649-30 LT-LT-136 LT-104 LT-158 LT-635 LT-130 LT-202 and the LT-663 But your right, other than those 30 items most of the LT gear is over $200.00 |

I got into a discussion with a guy who custom builds 1911's about this "price/name brand" thing today at a 3 gun match we were at. To make a very long story short he pointed out one specific shooter, the one with probably $8,000.00 invested in his AR-15. EVERY name brand bell, whistle, spring ect... WOW! Guy was an awesome shooter, times were great and I was impressed. Then Bruce tapped me on the arm and told me to watch the next guy run the course. __Insert fancy cartoon bling blam noises here__ This guy finished the course darn near 15 seconds faster and scored way better, He actually took 1st place by the time the event finished. What amazed me is when Bruce took me over and introduced the gentleman to me..... His rifle: A Model 1 sales "PARTS KIT" M4 clone built on a Double Star lower receiver, a $49.00 set of handguards he found online, A CAA grip and foregrip sprayed with truck bed liner paint for texture and a NcStar red dot! It really made me stop and think for a moment....... Will the $400.00 handguards and $180.00 flip up tactical sites really make me shoot better than the guy next to me with the $49.00 no name handguards and a bolt on A2 front site and a bolt on carry handle????? Probably not |
