Great choice on the ST upper. I put one (M4) on my current build about a year ago, but with a different barrel, and am very happy with it. Fit and finish are excellent. 1913 slots are exactly parallel to my barrel and are accurately and uniformly cut. Great attention to detail at a reasonable price. And you gotta love that spider logo on the top back (just kidding about that).

Does the PSA FN CHF CL 1/7 mid length barrel fall into the same league as this barrel?
I purchased one of these when they were available a couple months back, and I must say that it shoots spot on. They were advertising it as a heavy chrome lined barrel manufacture by FN, and it was hammer forged. Not a lightweight barrel. Something along the lines of an HBAR with out the cutouts on it for a grenade launcher. Rifle is a little on the heavy side. But recoil is very little to none with an H2 buffer and carbine spring, and their premium BCG. I think the weight takes a lot of the bite out of the recoil. I have not seen this upper for sale since I purchased mine, I paid like 650 shipped for it, with free shipping. This was a complete upper. Seems to be an upper tier barrel. |

The Spikes guy has said that they are made by FN to the PSA specs which are different than their specs, which I took to mean possibly not as good in his view. I have a PSA 14.7" CHF MOE midlength that I picked up from them for $349 minus BCG/CH. It has been great so far. |
| As the customer I spec out the material, plating, any finish work, any specific manufacturing processes, chamber specs, thread specs, gas port specs, entire profile, ect. All of these specs are listed out on our drawing package which is proprietary to us. We also have our own inspection processes. So yeah our FN barrel can definitely be very different than the next company's FN barrel. You just have to choose which company you want to spec out your parts and also factor in customer service and warranty support if there ever becomes an issue. With that said FN does have their own standards and they are not about to produce a junk barrel for anyone. The profile may be goofy, the gas port size may not be the optimum size, but it won't ever be anything terrible. It may not be the best FN barrel but it's guaranteed to be a good FN barrel, doesn't matter who's name is branded on it. |

If your order is like mine from Primary Arms, the upper will come in a brown box with no cool stickers or patches from Spikes..... Just an upper in a sealed bag and a brown box.... |

It may not be the best FN barrel but it's guaranteed to be a good FN barrel, doesn't matter who's name is branded on it. That was a good, honest, accurate, explanation by Badazzar... I have both a Spikes FN barrel; and a 14.7 inch CHF, PSA branded FN barrel. Both are high quality, accurate, and durable. That said, I would much rather deal with Spikes than PSA anytime; and yes, I've dealt with both manufacturers regarding warranty issues before. The Spikes issue was extremely minor, hell, even my fault, but it was taken care of free of charge and promptly. The PSA issue was major, was as slow as Christmas to address the issue, (3-4 weeks), and management had to get involved before a total barrel replacement was issued by PSA. And that's the difference, that makes all the difference... |
