Is this about the pull - pull vs push - pull? Or are you wondering about what your body position should be with it mounted for an ergonomic position? A lot of guys prefer other options to a VFG, in particular hand stops. But, they have their place. I have some rotator cuff issues and find the C-clamp grip and other grips with my hand extended far forward to be a great way to agitate that, and holding for longer periods with a VFG in the right position is much less painful/injury agitating than any other hold I've tried. I keep my VFGs pretty far back, in a position that allows my support arm elbow to be in or very close to a locked position, reducing the energy needed to hold and sustain that position. The downside is my control is not as fine as it would be if my grip were near the end of the handguard. But, when I need more precision, I can always use my bipod, or lean my handguard against a tree or structure for support. Take my approach only for that of someone who considers primarily the conditions of hunting and home/vehicle defense, and also some target shooting. I'm not an operator, nor do I play one on forums. |

I think you figure out where it should be mounted for the most natural arm position. My son keeps his far back towards the receiver. I have a buddy who puts his out at the end like DD ships their rifles. There is considerable arm length difference between them. Start with ergonomics and go from there. For me the best place for a VFG is in the trash. |

| I have always found the front of the mag well works great on a carbine. I remember when the Knights RAS first came out and I had it on a 20" M16A2. Used the VFG also on a standard M4 but honestly I feel its main benefit would be 'real' full auto. Firing three round burst I still use the mag well hold. |
