So many times in ads I see claims that Special Forces use their weapons. I know they use mostly M4's and I'm assuming mostly colt. I also know they do change things up sometimes. What other rifles or brands do you know of them using. References to such would be cool.

I think some companies give them a few weapons then claim SF uses their products forever.

Colt and FN is it for M16/M4.
Some units might be field testing the HK 416 as a replacement for the M4.
I suppose there could be GM Hydramatic or H&R recievered M16/M4 rifles still out there.
Doubtful though.

Are any of the SF units fielding the SCARS units yet?

I don't know how expansive it's gotten these days with more battalions spending their budgets on, but this was put out a while back.
I've never gotten my hands on one yet as the majority of us haven't, but the HK416 looks to be a fine rifle even though HK for all their outlook on letting the American people have a semi version, are a bunch of assbags as far as I'm concerned. Screw if they do, because I'd rather buy more POF's at this point.

Military.com article

The SF units and individual soldiers tend to use what they want for each missions needs as it should be, but I have a feeling more HK416's will be bought and more soldiers will be looking to use it before they pick up any M4 or M16.
I don't blame em, I've had enough of the DI system.

I was always under the assumption (key word) that the special forces used pretty much whatever they wanted. I thought they weren't issued anything...they were basically given a budget and a mission and the tool selection was left up to them. In most pics (and who knows if they're real or not) you see them using SOPMOD M4s (Colt/FN/KAC) or MP5s and a few Barretts. Hell they've used grease guns in the past. I bet we'll see some using that crazy new subgun that escapes my mind at the moment. It was in Futureweapons...the one with seriously low climb/recoil. If you really want to get some details on what they use get a copy of The Black Rifle II.

The Kriss is the sub-gun you are trying to remember. Chambered in .45ACP.

This MK. 12 Mod 0 SPR rifle was built on a Hydromatic M16A1 lower. This was in 2004 during OIF I/II. It was the property of an ODA that operated out of Al-Kut, Iraq.

Any Mk18s/LMT gear? Or is that strictly for the NAVY boarding activity?

It's great to have some accurate info around here. Thanks!

Must be nice to be in 5th.  In 1-10, we went from the spearhead to the last girl at the dance.

BTW, they're M4A1's, not A2's.

5th SF Group is trialing a limited number of Leitner-Wise rifles (LWRC). Don't know anything about actual use in the sandbox but playing with them.

My friend is a pilot in the 160th SOAR. He organized and ran a 3-gun match at Ft. Campbell about a month ago. It was only open to active duty SF and 160th guys. My bud was responsible for soliciting prizes and one of the companies (among many) that came through was LWRC, donating an upper. "George", a Brit-accented VP from LWRC, personally brought the upper and attended the match. He and several of the SF guys stated that 5th Group was playing with them. Unfortunately, I had to work that day or I could have at least attended the match and BS'd with the vendors---my active duty days are long over and did not include SF or 160th, but I could have gotten on base to watch. They also all went out that night and good shit was talked about!

Oh, my friend (an AVID 3-gun shooter) won the match and therefore got to pick first at the prize table. Guess what he picked? Yep, the LWRC upper! Probably 'cause I have one and showed it to him a few months ago!

Yeah, they are still out there.  Here is one I used not too many years back.  M16A1 converted to burst and restamped.

A pristine, original equipment Hydromatic would be a great piece to have. They have hammer-forged barrels. Once it's been converted to A2 / rebuilt in overhaul, it's just another rifle. Serviceable, but nothing special other than the marking.

No one could have the above rifle anyway.  It's just cool because you don't see them every day.
