So I'm nearing the full parts set for my MEGA upper build;  my 18" Noveske SPR came in the other day.  Barrel has a midlength gas system.

I've pretty much decided on the VTAC handguard.  VTAC's website says the rifle length will leave the gas block exposed on rifle length systems, and the mid length will leave the block exposed on midlength systems.

Will the Noveske block fit under the VTAC handguard?  What are the pros and cons of having the gas block exposed?

This rifle will primarily be for punching targets, although it will likely get some limited hunting use.  I'm planning on mounting a scope that's on another rifle, Weaver Classic 1-4x30mm.  I'll also likely add a bipod in the not-to-distant future.  I don't really see mounting any flip-up irons (front or rear) as this rifle will not have an expected SD or HD use.

So, which would you choose?  Bonus points for pics...

I would get the rifle length if you are not worried about weight.  It will cover the gas so you will not be able to burn your self on it.  I think the mid-length guard would be too short for a 18" barrel

The rifle with the VTAC handguard has a rifle length gas system and rifle legnth guard.
The rifle wtih the LaRue handguard has a mid legnth gas system and a 13.2 guard.
Both rifles are 18" barrels.

Thanks.

Now, will the Noveske block fit under  a VTAC handguard?

Probably.  A PRI lo-pro block fit under mine.
