Lots of choices, with prices ranging from low $700ish to upper $800ish.

Sticking to these brands:

DPMS
STAG
CMMG

What do you guys think?  Who should I go with?  Colt's at $1200 seem high, are they really that much more reliable than these other M4s?

Thanks!

The Stag may be good, but I like my CMMG a LOT!  Go to their website and see how much customization they provide.  It's incredible.

To save more money, buy the upper and lower separately on two different orders.

Most firearm instructors and competition groups usually recommends these brands for reliability.

In this order:

1. Colt 6920
2. Stag Arms/ CMT

Thanks for the recommendations on buying the upper and lower separately to save on the excise tax!

Looks like Stag is in the lead.

I like the fact I can almost buy 2 Stag M4s for the price of a Colt 6920, but I dunno, decisions decisions!

Are you going to only purchase one?

HA! HA! HA!

This is arf.com and you will have the bug and end up buying many more of every configuration!

You cant own just one!!!

Example:

I have:

Colts
Bushmasters
DPMS's
RRA's

Note the multiples?

There are only very few LMT compared to those other brands that shows up in their class and competition but they like the LMT MRP model.

I have both LMT and Colts and I would rate the LMT tied with the number 2 spot.

Any brand individually could do well when stressed but overall as a whole group nobody could beat Colt yet.

CMMG Mod4.
14.5" with permanent Phantom.
It will probably cost you more than $800, though.

ETA: $1075.95 MSRP from their website.

I couldn't be more pleased with my new CMMG 14.5" midlength.....in fact I've been posting about it all over this forum for like a week; it's excited me like no other new gun I've ever had. Everything about it is just right and is exactly how I want it to be. BTW, make sure you check out midlengths before you buy. I was totally focused on M4s when I got into ARs, but ended up being really sold on the advantages of midlengths. IMO it's pretty likely that midlengths will soon replace M4s as the "most popular" AR configuration. Not that you won't enjoy having an M4...........

And no, IMHO Colts are not more reliable than any of the other rifles you mentioned........

Don't forget Bravo Company - BCM uppers!!!

Any of those would be good choices.  And you should definitely look into buying the upper and lower separate.

My vote would go to either Stag or CMMG.
