Lots of choices, with prices ranging from low $700ish to upper $800ish. Sticking to these brands: DPMS STAG CMMG What do you guys think? Who should I go with? Colt's at $1200 seem high, are they really that much more reliable than these other M4s? Thanks! |

Most firearm instructors and competition groups usually recommends these brands for reliability. In this order: 1. Colt 6920 2. Stag Arms/ CMT 3. Bushmaster 10-8 Forums website link |
I would put LMT in the top 1 or 2. |
There are only very few LMT compared to those other brands that shows up in their class and competition but they like the LMT MRP model. I have both LMT and Colts and I would rate the LMT tied with the number 2 spot. Any brand individually could do well when stressed but overall as a whole group nobody could beat Colt yet. |
you also must remember, that CMMG rifles come with 2 mags, a sling, hard case, GI cleaning kit and lifetime warrenty. don't forget the carry handle too. |

I couldn't be more pleased with my new CMMG 14.5" midlength.....in fact I've been posting about it all over this forum for like a week; it's excited me like no other new gun I've ever had. Everything about it is just right and is exactly how I want it to be. BTW, make sure you check out midlengths before you buy. I was totally focused on M4s when I got into ARs, but ended up being really sold on the advantages of midlengths. IMO it's pretty likely that midlengths will soon replace M4s as the "most popular" AR configuration. Not that you won't enjoy having an M4........... And no, IMHO Colts are not more reliable than any of the other rifles you mentioned........ |

Any of those would be good choices. And you should definitely look into buying the upper and lower separate. My vote would go to either Stag or CMMG. BTW IdahoPanhandle, have you checked out the hometown forum? Click here |
