A buddy has a case (ammo can) of 840 Lake City M855 on clips in bandoliers. It's headstamped LC 95 and has never been unpacked (one round was pulled out to see the headstamp, and replaced). The question is, is it worth selling or should he keep it (he doesn't need it), and what do you guys think he could get for it?

Thanks, AR15fan. Just what I wanted to know. I'm surprised at how cheap M855 is right now with everybody talking about being out of stock. But, it is what it is.

Actually, if you search around... looking for M855 in cans/bandos/strippers and not XM or PD packed loosely, you'll find it goes for MUCH more than 18c/rd.

In fact, you'll be hard pressed to find anything go for 18c/rd these days!

"Lake City M855:
US Military NATO spec ammo. The best there is. Packed in bandoleers on stripper clips or on Minimi links. Submitted by: AR15fan" This was posted on 'Ammo Review'

Sounds like it's a lot more than 'practice ammo' to me - in fact, it would be excellent for sighting in a combat rifle and for subsequent use in that rifle. For that reason I'm going to get it myself. I've been wondering what ammo I was going to use for sighting in, and that answers the question.

Check the date on that reveiw.  It predates readily available Mk262 & 75Gn TAP loads. The ammo world has moved on.

Yes ammo prices are obsurd right now.  You can still find 55Gn .223 for 17cents a round and 75Gn OTM Horm practise load for 21 cents a round.

I'm glad i stocked up on 9K of M1A3 at .14 cents a round a few years ago.
