I am in the process of putting together a mid length. I got my stripped Stag lower from Del-Ton yesterday (good folks by the way) and plan on getting one of there mid length rifle kits to complete it. First question is triggers. This gun may be a home defense weapon in addition to a fun gun. My previous (and only other) AR had a rock river lower with single stage trigger that frankly, sucked. Big time gritty creap. At the gun show I handled another RRA carbine that supposedly had the RRA 2 stage. I say supposedly because I'd never fealt a 2 stage trigger in an AR before. There was a very light take up with minimal travel (maybe 1/8" or slightly less) followed by a crisp but not real light break. It fealty about perfect for my purposes but I left wondering if it was in fact a 2 stage. The take up was so short I hardly noticed it. I thought that most 2 stage triggers had like 1/2" of travel before the second stage. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, is my description consistent with a RRA 2 stage. If so that's what I think I will get with my rifle kit. It fealt good but wasn't too lite for a defnsive weapon. I just want to make sure the knuckle head trying to sell the rifle just didn't know what the hell he was talking about when he said "yeah everyone of the Rock Rivers there in front of you has the 2 stage trigger in it". The other question is who makes an 11" railed float tube other than Larue? I want the 11" because it is just barely long enough to cover the gas block. I want the gas block covered but I don't like the look of the real long (12'+) rails. If no one else makes one I'll just pony up the $ for the Larue and be done with it. But if some one else makes a decent 11" at a better price I might consider it. Thanks for the help, Adrock1 |

No comment on the trigger, but I do want to let you know if you choose Troy's "shorter than normal" gas block you can get away with a 10" rail. This gas block was made for Troy's 10" rail and will sit flush with the end of the rail. I can't think of another 11" rail besides LaRue. |

I think that the 2 stage trigger is more of a long light pull followed by a crisp, heavier, break. I used a RBPrecision LPK and really like it. When I pull the trigger, it doesn't take much pull at all for the break. It is a single stage trigger, not a NM trigger, but it just goes bang almost as soon as I pull it. I've never fired a NM or 2 stage trigger, but I cannot think it is better than what I have for the price. It also doesn't feel that heavy either. It sounds like the RRA was a single stage to me, based on my own trigger. Keep in mind on that midlength that you are getting a heavy barrel, 1" of barrel diameter under the handguards. It is a good bit heavier than an M4 or lightweight or even some other brand midlengths (like CMMG). Don't get me wrong, I love my Del-Ton midlength, but it is heavier. At 11", I would think that the gas block would be covered. The midlength rails are around 9" long and then the gas block, so the extra 2" should just about cover it completely. I think that's why many go with the 10", it gives you 1/2-1" of gas block sticking out. I went with the Troy MRF-M on my middy and kept the FSB (YHM flip up). Either way, the middy is a good look on a rifle. If I had the money, I would have gone Troy 13" wiht low profile gas block. |
