| I've got a 16in. middie being assembled and would like to know what my best option is. I've got a standard buffer (no H) and H buffer. Will either of these suffice? I'll be shooting Wolf Gold and PP Match out of it with a little bit of standard 62gr. fmj. No laquer ammo will be shot through unless it's Hornady practice and that's probably not going to happen. |

If the barrel is up to snuff, you should be able to use just about any buffer you want and many will tell you on a middy, a standard or H buffer is fine.
Me personally, I like to run heavy buffers because even on a semi-auto only weapons I feel a heavy buffer aids in reliability, lowers felt recoil and helps balance the weapon. I have 2 16" middies in my safe and both are using rifle buffers (in fixed stocks) which are pretty close to the same weight as a Colt 9mm carbine buffers (which is what I run in my 2 carbines). All of them have been 100% reliably with all the ammo I've run through them. |
| It's not a hughe difference but I can tell the difference when using a standard versus, my H or Spikes STT2. For me considering it could be life or death on the line I'll take every advantage I can get no matter how small. I prefer the STT2 and the price isnt outrageous compared to other prducts I have tried that abosuletly sucked. |

I've been running a standard carbine buffer which came with my Vltor EMOD complete kit on my 16" midlength for over four years now without any problems.
I usually use surplus XM193, XM855, and SS109 ammo, also I use a mil-spec O-ring on my bolt extractor. You should try both of your buffers on the type of ammo you're using and if they both work fine maybe use the heavier buffer for better reliability. |
