[ARCHIVED THREAD] - What does capped - uncapped mean?

I assume uncapped means the scope adjustments can be made by turning the knobs and the graduations are exposed versus capped meaning you have to remove them to make adjustments? Thanks.

Leupold VX-R 1.25-4 Patrol Firedot scope with "Un-capped turrets" (adjustment turrets with no caps covering them up)

Leupod VX-R Firedot 4 with "Capped turrets" (you gotta unscrew the caps to get at the windage & elevation adjustments)

So what's preferred on a 1-4x24mm scope - capped or uncapped? Thanks.

Depends on your useage.....if you need to make quick adjustments and do it alot then the uncapped are going to be obviously faster for you....

If you are worried about knocking the turrets on something and whacking your dope out of adjustment then the protection of the caps is a bonus

I pretty much set em and forget em so the capped turrets are my preference except on target rifles
