I am going to buy a stag stripped lower, a DPMS lower parts kit, and complete upper from Model 1.  What else will I need to buy to complete my rifle?

Ammo. Lots and lots of ammo. Oh yeah, mags too.

Do you have a stock for it or does the lower kit come with one?

No stock.  I think the lower parts kit comes with the grip and all the parts that go into the lower.  I know I need the stock.  I am not sure what else I need as far as the buffer, buffer spring, ect.

Stock, buffer , buffer spring, buffer tube, stock screw should be all, as long as the 'complete upper' really is and doesn't need a bolt, carrier and charging handle.

I just assembled a lower using a DPMS lower kit. Take down pins were oversized, I will spend a little more money instead of time next time.

They don't get a whole lot of publicity on this site, but M&A Parts (www.m-aparts.com) kits are really top notch.  Builders like myself are usually loyal to one company, and M&A takes care of me big time.  If you take the time to call them on the phone, you might find that they offer offer some kit configurations that you won't see online.  Their website format leaves a lot to be desired, but their customer service is second to none.  All of their parts are in-spec, and I haven't seen any trash in any of the parts that I've ordered from them.  They offer a government profile 20-inch chrome lined kit, that is the cat's ass.  I got burned by one of their competitors who shipped me some garbage, and another that never has anything I need in stock when I need it.  If M&A tells you that they have it, you can wait for the brown truck, because it's enroute.  Just my $.02, your mileage may vary.

To assemble the lower kit the only tools you need are the roll pin punches from Brownells.

www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=5551&title=ROLL+PIN+PUNCHES

3/32 is #3 Roll pin punch
item #230-100-003
#3 Roll Pin Punch   $3.75

1/8 is #4 Roll pin punch

#4 Roll Pin Punch   $3.83

Technically you don't even need the right size roll pin punches to assemble your lower, where as you will definately need them to disassemble your lower, but I do advise that you go ahead and get the 1/8 and 3/32 roll pin punches.

It is very easy and fun to assemble a lower, good luck but you won't really need it.

Just a little tip I picked up: Cover some of your lower with masking or box tape (especially near blot catch) this will help prevent marring. Just find a tape that doesn't leave a lot of adhesive residue.

I use a wood chisel sitting flat on the pin (maybe 1/2" or what ever you have) to install the pins. Duct tape the receiver to prevent scratching and support the trigger area with a piece of wood to prevent breakage.

Assembly tip:

Get a clear plastic bag, like a dry cleaner's bag, when you get ready to install the spring loaded pins, if they go ballistic, and they probably will...the bag will keep them from getting lost!
